If you were serious, and I mean really damned serious about getting married, you might be interested in coughing up the cash for one of Japan's marriage hunting sessions. Once enrolled, both men and women take classes to become better potential brides or grooms. The guys get guidance on how to relax and talk to women, while the ladies get makeup tips and wedding dress color suggestions. How great is that? Lonely? Take a class!
After the separate classes, the guys and girls get together and mingle. They'll each meet up, blind date style, and detail their hobbies and interests. Everyone gets a 10-minute meeting with everyone else. Hit it off? Great -- meet your life mate. If not, there's always next session.
Man, whatever happened to going out? Meeting people at work/school?

Eh, I could use this. "Meeting people at work/school" has not worked out. I'm a little shy in RL, and most of the guys that approach me are either a) weirdos b) obese or c) more than ten years older.
The biggest problem is that I'm too polite to reject them outright. A ten minute timer would sooo come in handy.
I have to agree with Mahina, the meeting people at work/school thing doesn't work out for everyone. I'm not even shy, just bad at chatting up the ladies, at least in that context.
finding a partner for marriage is a HUUUGE industry in japan. they have specialists that do bios, then link you up with potential partners. then they introduce you (yes that means they go with you on the first date).
