Hatsune Miku crackers may be the most moe meal ever
by Colette Bennett, 02/04/2010
Hatsune Miku crackers may be the most moe meal ever photo

Alafista brought us an update today on what have to be the most incredible crackers of all time. If you feel like forking over your 1,280 yen for a box of these, you are going to get some scrumptious goodies with not only Miku on them but other vocaloids such as Kaito too. Finally, I can eat him!

These are on sale through Amazon JP and Rakuten and are slated to come out around May 25th. I'm just so pleased to see these, but at the same time I am 100 percent sure that if I did fork over the money for these that I could not actually eat them. I would go to the kitchen, and I would think about it. I would probably look longingly at the box, open it, and sniff them. But the idea of actually chewing Miku or Kaito up ... I'm just not sure I could do it. I don't want to kill them!

Never enough Miku: Sapporo Miku snow sculpture time!
by Brad Rice, 02/02/2010
Never enough Miku: Sapporo Miku snow sculpture time! photo

We here at Japanator love Hatsune Miku. Really, we can't get enough of her. So we're more than happy to see Miku make her way into the Sapporo Snow Festival, where she'll bring Vocaloid to the masses, warming everyone's hearts and sculptures to make her way into first place.

Down in the gallery below, we've got some recent pictures of the sculpture as it was being constructed. The festival kicks off on February 5th, so in just a few days we'll see the reactions to the piece of work, along with some of the other impressive pieces that are sure to pop up in Japan's Alaska.

To commemorate this sweet little achievement, Goodsmile Company is doing a special Snow Miku nendoroid that'll be on sale at WonFes. Might want to go to a service like Tokyo Hunter to get the figure, since it's probably a WonFes exclusive.

If you're wondering what that slightly creepy snow sculpture mixed in with these photos is? Well, it's from Setokai no Ichizon. Don't stare at it too long, you might have nightmares.

[Thanks, Ko!]

METI taps Hatsune Miku for recycling campaign
by Karen Gellender, 01/23/2010
METI taps Hatsune Miku for recycling campaign photo

Now, I thought that the devious plan to send Hatsune Miku to Venus was the crème de la crème of weird Miku news, but that just goes to show what I know. METI (Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry) has teamed up with Crypton and other artists to create a Miku music video dedicated to the topic of cell phone recycling. The song has been out for a few weeks, but the video- which you can check out after the jump- just premiered.

Thanks to the inimitable Ko, I have a rough translation of "Let's gather cell phones sitting in our drawers!" in all it's, err, glory:

Let's gather cell phones sitting in our drawers / You probably have one in your house, too / There's a lot of valuable resources in the cell phone you don't need any more / Let's all gather up our unused cell phones and recycle them / We will protect your secrets / So let's gather cell phones sitting in our drawers

Miku's involvement aside, METI is seriously committed to encouraging cell phone recycling. People who recycle their old phone upon buying a new one are eligible for a cash prize; I imagine that the grand prize of 50,000 yen would be enough to get some otherwise apathetic folks interested in recycling. Apparently the phone does have to be worth more than 2,500 yen to qualify for the program, but to tell you the truth, I question how many cell phones even exist in Japan that cost less than that. Anyway, participants can receive a handy 1,000 yen for just recycling an old phone.

I wonder though- what ARE they using those old phones for? Are they gutting the electronics and using them for new devices, or perhaps using them all to make a keitai supercomputer? Or maybe, do I dare hope, they're putting them all together to make some sort of giant Hatsune Miku robot? Maybe Miku's involvement in this runs deeper than we know.

Give your Miku plush a new best friend with Gift's Luka
by Jon Snyder, 01/10/2010
Give your Miku plush a new best friend with Gift's Luka photo

[As posted on Tomopop by Colette Bennett]

If you're a fan of all things Miku like we are, I know you made a high-pitched squeaking noise when you saw Gift's Hatsune Miku plush. I have to admit it's pretty adorable, and I had a feeling that it would snapped up by fans in moments (and it did). The inevitable next step was to make Vocaloid heartthrob Kaito, which of course they did. And now, who's next?

Why, Megurine Luka, of course! Coming your way in February, Good Smile will offer the tako princess for 3,675 yen. She has fully jointed arms and legs so you can mold her into a hug and make her share love with Miku and Kaito. I love everything about Vocaloid, including the confused faces people make that have never heard it when you try to explain it to them. Virtual idol, you say? Yes, I like pop stars that don't really exist!

Only YOU can send Hatsune Miku to Venus
by Karen Gellender, 12/15/2009
Only YOU can send Hatsune Miku to Venus photo

If you're a Hatsune Miku fan, I know what's keeping you up at night: the lack of the turquoise-haired Vocaloid in space. If an alien race were to enter our solar system tomorrow, would they be greeted by her beautiful, euphonic Miku-ness? No, their introduction to our realm would be nothing more than some asteroids pelting their windshield, or maybe Pluto saying "I am SO a planet, goddammit!" I'm still pissed about Pluto's demotion, by the way.

Anyway, JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency) is sending a spacecraft called Akatsuki(!) to Venus sometime next year. The craft will be carrying illustrations of sundry things, and possibly Miku, on 100 aluminum plates. According to Vocaloidism, the plates are necessary counterweights for the craft, thus they don't exist solely for the purpose of enabling crazed-otaku signature fests. Nevertheless, JAXA's Professor Seiichi Sakamoto will set aside one of the plates just for Miku if they can get 10,000 signatures right here. The deadline is December 25th, Japanese Standard time.

Now, there are plenty of obvious jokes to be made about sending Hatsune Miku to Venus so I don't have to deal with her anymore, but I have nothing against the gal- she's certainly a cutie, and I have a weakness for anything with turquoise hair. In fact, if there is one snarky comment that I feel MUST be made in this case, it's the fact that there is no comparable signature campaign (that I know of) going on for Minako Aino, my beloved Sailor Venus. I mean, what the hell. Crazed otaku contingent, you disappoint me.

Max Factory's latest Miku makes me hard in the pantsu
by Tim Sheehy, 12/10/2009
Max Factory's latest Miku makes me hard in the pantsu photo

It's not often that I find a figure that I absolutely MUST buy, but this is one of those instances. When I first laid my eyes on the finished version of the VN02 Mix Hatsune Miku by Max Factory, I simply lost my sh*t. Everything about the figure is aesthetically pleasing, and from the color scheme to the pose, and everything between, I've grown to want this figure in more than one way. Can you even blame me? I mean, just look at her. She's insanely hot.

Unfortunately for me, I'll have to wait until June before I can get my hands on her, and just like every other Miku figure that's been scheduled to hit shelves recently, I'm sure she'll end up being delayed. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll actually push up the release date. It's been known to happen. If not, I can just use the next several months to scrounge up the $120 she'll end up costing me--probably more than that after shipping. You can preorder her from various sites like Hobby Search, and AmiAmi, and if you want to stay up to date on her, you'll want to keep checking Tomopop for the latest updates.

Is anyone else drooling as much as I am?

Have sex with Hatsune Miku. Finally. Kinda.
by Dale North, 12/04/2009
Have sex with Hatsune Miku. Finally. Kinda. photo

*unzips pants*

Oh, yes. It's about time. I've waited so long for this.

*moves closer, breathes heavy*

Do you know how long I've liked you? How long I've listened to your music and watched your videos? I'm your biggest fan, and I'm so happy that you're opening up for me.

....

Mmm. What? You want it slower? I thought you might...(!) Wait! You're not Hatsune Miku. Eww! Kimoi! Who are you? You're some look-alike. How dare you trick me into...well, let's finish and then we'll talk.

I'm claiming false advertising. Of course, if I would have looked closer at this...*cough*...self-pleasuring device, I would have noticed that this is not Miku, but "Future Loid Mikuti." Should I get checked? The 2,600 yen I spent on this isn't worth the doctor bill!

According to the packaging, Mikuti, that tricky bitch, is a virtual idol fluent in 39 languages. The packaging promises that you will "learn her secrets" upon purchasing the item. One of her secrets is that her "insertion point" is only 4mm in diameter, so once she has you in, she will not let you go. It's all part of the trap.

Saboten-Con 2009 - Saturday Cosplay: Moe Miku Edition
by Jon Snyder, 11/04/2009
Saboten-Con 2009 - Saturday Cosplay: Moe Miku Edition photo

It's an important and popular fact that the second day of an anime convention always brings better cosplay... and Saboten-con was no exception. Without a doubt, Saturday was dominated by the Hatsune Miku cosplayers, of which there were four (for a con as small as Saboten, that's a lot). My favorite two are pictured above; this photo was shot after they had just finished an impromptu dancing session.

Saturday's highlights also included a kilt-wearing stormtrooper (who was doubling as a security guard for the maid cafe), Captain America, Darth Nihilus, a black Krillin, and an absolutely ADORABLE female Naruto and Sasuke couple. Check out those photos and more in the gallery below!

If you missed the Friday cosplay post, it can be found here. Look for the final installment tomorrow!

Good Smile Company reveals Vocaloid charms line
by Colette Bennett, 10/22/2009
Good Smile Company reveals Vocaloid charms line photo

The first time I saw these vocaloid charms mixed in with some other full size toys over at Mikatan Blog, I clearly recollect choking on my tea a little and wailing at my monitor "WHERE CAN I BUY THESE?" Not a surprise, as the overwhelming adorable factor is a lot to handle even for someone who isn't already a vocaloid fan. I'm pleased to announce they will be open for preorder very soon, so now if you want one (or all of them) you can get it!

These three are called Pirori Miku, Pirorin, and Toeto (Toeto is one of Vocaloid Luka's personalities). No prices are out there just yet, but I would expect they will be pretty reasonable, not to mention a great way to show off your love for all things vocaloid on your keychain or hoodie zipper. Wait, Miku hoodie zipper? Must...not...die...from...the cuteness....
