A Daily Dose of Music: Macross Week

10:00 AM on 10.11.2012 // Hiroko Yamamura

Last week celebrated the 30th anniversary of my favorite anime of all time, Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Full of action, robots, romance, and humanity, Macross was a space opera tour de force. One of the things that really made Macross stand out for me was definitely the music. In each of the series, the power of music was always a central point of the show. This week we take a look back at some of the most memorable moments.

When dealing with Macross Frontier you are on one side of the fence, either team Ranka or Sheryl. However, when it came to music, we could all agree that both ladies rock! Today we take a look at one of my favorite scenes from episode 12, where Ranka Lee belts out Seikan Hikou mid battle.

I have to admit, when I first started seeing promotional images of Macross Frontier and its non-Mikimoto character designs, I was convinced I would hate it. In fact, I didn't watch the show when it originally aired. Then while shopping in Tokyo I heard Seikan Hikou on the speakers system. The cashier excitedly told me all about Megumi Nakajima and the new series, having me run to the shop to buy an overpriced Blu-Ray.

The rest is history, as I completely fell head over heels for Macross Frontier, as well as pretty much every piece of music from the show and movies. The movies themselves? Well, I'll save that for a later time. Nyan!
