Buffy forever

I didn't start listening to Cibo Matto through my traditional Japanese music routes, I actually first caught their infectious sound on an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in 1997. The New York based duo never actually found much success in Japan, but had a strong following Stateside. They have collaborated with incredible artists like Sean Lennon, Mike Patton, and Sonic Youth. Oh yeah, they mostly sung about food, fitting as their name translater from Italian as, "Crazy food."

Everything about the song Sugar Water just oozes coolness. The band were on the heels of the trip hop movement that was gaining steam across the world, but they brought their own Japanese style and attitude to their amazing act. After a hiatus the band is actually working together again as a three piece, recently doing a show with popular rock band, Wilco.
