A Hikkikomori Weekend - Vol. 1
by Kageryu, 09/06/2009

Some people can go out on the town Saturday night, some people can see a movie, some people can even cuddle up with their significant others and all that stuff, sure, some people can do that...but I'm not those people.

Oh no, none of that for me. Because you see Internet, I am a hikkikomori, a social recluse who doesn't take in the enjoyment that could come from regular social adventures, and instead figures that it would be better to spend my time like I do during the weekdays, holidays, funeral days, wedding days, doomsdays, and that is on my computer chair, feet planted firmly on the floor, typing away to the masses that will never read the words I have to say.

This, is a hikkikomori weekend.

Lets start by discussing what goes into a hikkikomori weekend, to be honest, that answer is as varied as the kinds of disturbing pornography you can find on the internet. Some use hikkikomori weekends to find the answers to the questions that plague them, others use them to catch up on all the things they for whatever reason missed during the week, some play video games, some rest for the following week's hardships, and others use them to masturbate, quite furiously too.

I use them to do all those things and more. This segment will basically cover my weekend, and what I did to pass the time between Friday and Monday. (I'm aware it's only Saturday evening, but I already have Sunday planned out.)

The weekend started like most of them do, 2AM, on various IRC channels and imageboards, laughing at the internet memes that only I and the internet get. On the second monitor of my computer is playing the new Haruhi episode, I had already seen it, but I figured I would watch it again because Haruhi was really, really moe in it, so there wasn't any harm in watching it again. I began playing Mass Effect again, but I haven't been able to really sink myself into a video game for a while now, so that didn't last long. Maybe I'll play a visual novel next week, those tend to keep me occupied for many evenings.

Just because I stay home during the weekends doesn't mean I don't have the occasional company over, a friend of mine came over and after playing the required ten to twenty rounds of Melty Blood, we began playing Shining Tears, I realized that I had never beaten it, so I figured why not.

Shining Tears took us to 3AM Saturday morning, since it was so late, he ended up staying over, I myself however retreated back to my throne/prison/computer to continue my adventures into insomnia and internet submersion, finally calling it a morning at around 8AM.

When I came to at around 12, it was so hot in my cage that I had to relocate to another part of the house, I live in California you see, and it's been 100+ for the past week. I could have stayed in my room the entire day, but even I have my limits.

Six o'clock rolled around, and it was finally safe to entire my room again. This evening I downloaded the Tomoyo After OVA again, so I think I'll watch it just to add a little bitter sweetness to the evening. Tomorrow Band of Brothers is on, so that'll take up tomorrow evening. I'll probably sleep the early day away again, and spend tonight looking for a new MMO to play.

...Oh, what I would do to have an MMO like the one from the Lucky Star OVA...
