A-kon '08: Bandai conglomerated entertainment panel
by John Martone, 05/30/2008
A-kon '08: Bandai conglomerated entertainment panel photo

If a general exposé of Nabeshin wasn't industry enough for you, we've arrived at Bandai Visual/Entertainment's panel. As should be known, the two have offically combined into some sort of awe-inspiring anime peddling ogre. Sitting in front of us is the casually dressed Rob Napton.

7:03 After apologizing for having con exhaustion, Rob promises something new after all of the updates
7:05 Code Geass trailer: While its not new, I don't mind watching it.
7:07 Spoiler: Lelouche is actually royalty
7:08 Code Geass details: August 5th release of a 39.98 "pack" containing of DVD one and two. This'll follow suit throughout the series release, up to the third box set (discs 5 and 6) in mid January. Special editions of these sets will be made, with soundtracks included. Probably stickers too.
7:11 Lucky Star trailer: Remember how I told you Dale loves Lucky Star... well he does, and is dancing
7:12 Rob is glad that people are enjoying the first volume of the show, but is curious why most the of the shirt wearing fans are male.
7:14 Ghost Slayer Ayashi trailer/details: While already annouced, I don't know enough about the series to pass judgement. That said, it has Steve Blum as the lead, how bad could it be? Going to be released on September 2nd, and will follow the same release option as Geass (10 episode, two DVD bundles)
7:16 Toward the Terra trailer: Sub only release, showing variation of options and probably touches of Visual's influence. July 15th marks the first release.
7:18 My Hime Z trailer/detials: If you know what My Otome/Hime is, then nothing else needs be said. Z is the OVA sequel to that school girl shonen. Four episodes, Rob promises that the entire collection will be on one collection. Oh please announce a Gunbuster re-release... please Rob...
7:22 Girl who lept through time trailer/details: Normally time can't go backwards, but we can watch this trailer over and over again. Sorry, bad pun. Limited theatrical release. Sweet! Promises that it will hit every major American anime area. Better complain if it doesn't reach your town. DVD will be out in November (limited and regular edition $49.98/29.98)
7:26 Gundam Seed: Destiny (TV movies) trailer: I want to say this is impressive, but I've moved on to Gundam 00. The first volume is availible now, fans seem to like it. Second volume will be put on the market this August.
7:29 Aika R-16 trailer: "Not suitable for all audiences." Man, I wish I could just watch the trailer and not type. Prequel to the previous series. First volume can be bought today.
7:31 Rocket Girls trailers: Cave men, school girls, and rockets! Oh my! One the Bandai conglomerate's sub only titles. To be released this summer.
7:33 Gundam 00 trailers/limited details: No, bring it back, I wasn't done watching. Release dates TBA. Bandai is looking for a US broadcast. Watch for more details at Anime Expo
7:36 Gurren Lagann trailer/limited details: Its hard to be wow'ed again, but the news of an American dubbed release in two months on Sci-fi still stuns me. Old news besides that. Sub only releases being expidited to our grubby hands this summer. Dub versions expected late '08/early '09
7:39 Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence details: 1st blue ray release of Bandai Entertainment. Keep it coming guys, my PS3 demands more pixels.
7:41 NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT: Whoa, this isn't the title Rob was going to announce, but he has "something." Is supposed to be a surprise to all...

7:42 Technical fail! Trailer won't load, and Rob demands blood for blood god. Q&A break.
7:45 "Will Gundam 00 be in High Definition?" Great question, no answer. Their policy is still being established, but is a definte possiblity.
7:46 "Will the original Mobile Suit Gundam be released in a subtitled form?" No comment, but made sure to say that Bandai has been currently looking into how they can use their old gundam series.
7:48 Total hush on the conglomeration process of Entertainment and Visual, no details. Probably a touchy subject.

7:51 NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT: Tamagotchi the movie?!?!!! I think I just upchucked pure granulated sugar. Oddly this looks palatable, maybe because it's a movie, and is set up in such a way.
Q&A extras: "Will Tamagotchi be a theatrical release?" No comment.

EDIT: Added the pictures from the panel. Hopefully Rob takes them in the playful manner they were taken. We thought they were hilarious.
