A Nintendo DS for every student! No fair!

A Nintendo DS for every student! No fair! photo

This is one of those articles that will make you happy, and very angry at the same time. About ten elementary and middle schools in the Osaka area will begin plans to distribute Nintendo DS consoles, plus educational software, to their students; though the kids won’t get their grubby hands on them until January. Surprisingly the Osaka Board of Education approved of this teaching method; probably after playing a round of Brain Age.

To no surprise, not everyone is happy about this. The biggest complaint is about the use of taxpayer’s money going straight into Nintendo’s deep pockets. Hell, if they are going to go this far why not just make Nintendo part of the Japanese government? What’s next, Wii Fit in gym class?

I’m mad that this didn’t happen when I was just a little demigod in grade school. Well, I guess they didn’t have Nintendo DS back then, but we had Game Boys, and probably some kind of adaptation of Jeopardy for Game Boy! Despite my anger, this is ultimately a good thing. It has some great educational software, and can really help children out with their problem solving skills. I doubt they will do this in the US, but either way the Nintendo DS truly does print money.
