Adult Swim to get an extra hour photo

Thank goodness for Adult Swim. For those of us who like to stay up late, it's a reminder that not just kids watch cartoons. I can't tell you how many times people look at me funny when they ask what my favorites on TV are and everything I can come up with is a cartoon. Well, yeah, I watch the History Channel too, but I wouldn't say I had a favorite show there.

Anyway, lest I go on about the prejudice the no-longer-a-child crowd gets for watching drawings move, I have some exciting news. Starting in January 2011, Adult Swim is supposed to start at 9:00 Eastern Time. That's a whole hour earlier than it is now.

Remember when Adult Swim used to to start at 11:00 at night? If it keeps getting earlier and earlier, we'll have reason to push the kids off the couch, reminding them that we can enjoy cartoons too.

Legacy Comments

Now if only they would stop hating Anime so much and giving it DOA time slots.
History Channel has Lock 'n Load. It's pretty good.
This is relevant to my interests....3 years ago. I hardly watch TV anymore. I used to love AS almost as much as I did Toonami.
I slowly stopped watching [as] about 3 years ago and now do I rarely ever watch it. 80% of their air time is devoted to Family Guy, Kind of the Hill, and their "stoner" Live-action shows. It isn't worth staying up past 11 p.m. to watch anime, it is just too late for me.
for me most of the "adult shows" on AS feel that they are aim at fourteen year old boys. I feel that toonami had more sophisticated programming than AS has to offer now.
Also are you a new blogger to japanator?
@Invader Alex -- I've been here a few months, but I haven't written a ton of blogs. And I think you're right that AS is more aimed toward young adult boys. But it did give me some of my first anime watching a few years ago when I was up waaaay too late.
@Danica Davidson:
Did it involve space cowboys?
Nope. Inuyasha. It ended with a cliffhanger and I thought, "So that's why people like these Japanese cartoons." I couldn't stay up late enough to watch the rest of it, though...
@Danica, oh sorry.
I will admit i used watch Inuyasha or Ghost in the shell when I could. But I never truely knew what the hell was going on because I never saw the first episodes of the shows.

@Invader Alex: Hey, no need to apologize! What are you sorry for?
I know exactly what you mean! Missing the first episodes can make such a difference.
this could be a really good thing ora really bad thing depending on programming, adult swim was bassicly all my childhood anime, the line up dosen't look that bad really
Yay! This is good news! Adult Swims the one of only things I watch on T.V.
This would've been awesome news like 2 or 3 years ago, back when AS actually gave a sh*t about anime. These days, I'm surprised if I turn on the tv to AS and it's not Family Guy or another poorly made stoner show.

On a less cynical note though, hopefully this will mean a chance for more good anime like GitS and Wolf's Rain to get a decent air time instead of at 1:00 in the morning.
@Gee-Man: We'll keep our fingers crossed! I know I wish AS would play more anime, and at a more reasonable time.
Maybe some a good show :P Ah they should really take of Bleach......the way it's going now it's never going to end......
Keep your fingers crossed, people. They might even return Anime to the weeknights schedules soon!
Case Closed, man! Come on, AS! It was first new centureeeee! In a hundred yearrrrrs!

I haven't watched Adult Swim in about three years. Partly 'cause I just lost interest in their b.s. way of schedualing new shows and because I stopped paying for cable.
They had some really cool stuff on there: FLCL, Witch Hunter Robin, Big O (which I think they helped produce the second season for, iirc) and a few generic ones.

EVERYONE OUT OF THE POOL!

If the new shows they're getting are interesting I might trapes my ass to someone's house that actually has cable to check it out!
boondocks is pretty good, actually
@matty
and when i felt like i should cry i laughed away my tears.

aa [AS] i lived in the west coast and had direct tv so all programing came 3 hours earlier for me(direct tv gives their shows on eastern time basis which was 3 hours ahead of mine).
So this is happening next year? Well, that's gonna be awhile.

Also waiting to see what other new animes AS got (glad to see they're airing the new season of Full Metal Alchemist. Gives me a reason to watch AS on Saturday nights again).
Adult Swim is the only good thing still on Cartoon Network
I love AS and the line up but I think on Saturdays and Sunday nights all of the good anime is puch back to far.
I'm really glad they A S has FMA and is continuing on with bleach , also think they should keep with Code Geass and it really is one of the only networks i watch
I love the animes on A S but Boondocks and Family Guy are actually really funny
