Japan Probe recently dug up a somewhat old post from a Sega Saturn fan who took a stab at translating the map of America the came with the game "Tengai Makyou: Daishi no Mokushiroku" (The 4th Apocalypse) released in 1997. It's a humorous look into some rather interesting interpretations of American geography and history. Take into account that the game is set in the 1890s and things get even weirder.
Being a native Minnesotan, I find the placement of the Twin Cities particularly creative.
