I know I’m not the only one who ever wondered why Japan hasn’t made any manga based off of classic American movies like Casablanca, Ghostbusters , and The Goonies. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see a bishonen Dr. Venkman? However, I thought of this as being only just a dream, a fantasy that will never come true. But thankfully I was wrong. The manga series, Sekai Meisaku Movie, is a new series of manga that makes manga renditions of old classic movies that entered into public domain. On the 17th of November Sekai Meisaku Movie released its four first books based off of these classic movies: Casablanca, Charade, Stagecoach, and Wuthering Heights.

But that’s not all! Each volume comes with an actual DVD of the corresponding film with Japanese subtitles included. In the future, Manga Bank is thinking of also doing Roman Holiday, Gone with the Wind and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

I know these will probably not be translated into English, but I would still love to see the manga adaptations of all of them. These manga are based off of a translated script, and appear to be spot on with the movie. However, I think I might enjoy a story that is influenced by manga culture and makes use of manga conventions instead of a page-by-page adaptation. A Gone with the Wind manga influenced by Pokemon, come on people you know you want it.
