An oldie but goodie playthrough of Final Fantasy VIMy apologies if you've heard of this one, but I have been enjoying it too much to not share. Let's Plays are good fun for any video game fan and, if you're studying Japanese, these kinds of videos are great. A nice mix of real Japanese plus games you have enjoyed or don't have the time to get to makes for an experience both entertaining and educational. The one I am currently enjoying is a play through of Final Fantasy VI recorded in 2008. The person playing is a 20-something woman who goes by "Obasan" ("aunt") and has a real knack for making the videos interesting. She's played FFVI before, but forgets a lot of it and gets lost from time to time. However the well timed cuts and great commentary keep from it becoming a bore to watch. She has a wonderful voice for it too, which is an absolute must when listening to someone talk for so long. Unfortunately there is some sexism going on in the Nico Nico comments. It's not all bad, though, and there are some humorous moments such as whenever she moves her chair and bumps something a sudden flood of "Are you okay? Marry me?" comments come up on the screen. I can't help but chuckle due to the sheer ridiculousness. In general, though, the commenters are nice and Obasan will often respond to things in the following videos. Check the videos out here (the first one is all the way at the bottom). Japanese (and a Nico Nico account) is required, but it's been great fun. Did you know?
