Anime Boston '09: FUNi licenses Spice & Wolf, announces new Eva dub photo

Out of the bowels of Anime Boston this past weekend came the word we've all been waiting for: Someone has finally licensed Spice & Wolf. Kadokawa has had the license over here for a while -- at least since Otakon -- and has been shopping around for a distributor. Nearly a year later, we finally have one in the titles FUNi had asked about if we'd be interested in them picking up.

Jeff was at Anime Boston for us, and the details are that they've just picked up the first season -- not yet the second season that's starting in July. They'll be including episode seven of the series, which was a DVD OVA that didn't air in Japan. They've also decided on a romanization of her name -- Holo. The series is set to release in Winter '09/'10.

Follow me after the jump for the rest of the FUNi info-fest!

[Special thanks to ANN and Gia for providing some of the info here!]

So, there's the matter of the new dub cast. Curious as to who's made the grade?

Misato - Allison Keith-Shipp
Shinji - Spike Spencer
Ritsuko - Colleen Clinkenbeard
Ibuki - Caitlin Glass
Gendo - John Swasey
Rei - Brina Palencia
Hyuuga - Mike McFarland
Fuyutsuki - Kent Williams
Kensuke - Greg Ayres
Toji - Justin Cook
Aoba - Phil Parsons
Kiel - Bill Jenkins
Hikari - Leah Clark
Kaworu - Jerry Jewell
Yui - Stephanie Young
Eva - Mike McFarland

The dub will actually premiere at Anime Expo in July, where we can hear how it turns out. They don't have much word on the next three films, but that's understandable. It'll end up in their hands, though, in the end.

Some other bits of news are:

-Sgt. Frog is coming out on 9/22, with all the anime references in place

-Romeo x Juliet dub premiered at Anime Boston. Apparently the script is written in iambic pentameter when possible, and has original lines from the play where appropriate
