Anime Central 2009 ADV industry panel

There were two important industry panels at Anime Central this year. One of these panels was incredible optimistic and happy, while the other was depressing and sad. To no surprise, the ADV industry panel was the sad one. There were no new acquisitions of new anime titles this time, but we were told that they have a bunch of new licenses on the horizon, but golden week has thrown a kunai in their plans for announcing it during this con. Take a look at some important key points of this panel after the jump.

  • Blu-ray is a hard medium to push at this moment (especially with anime), but they are looking into it (Hint hint Appleseed movies.) Here is a fun fact, Japan does not want American companies to have all episodes of a particular series on one Blu-Ray disc. They were not amused.

  • ADV loves Anime Network more than anything. They believe the future lies in their hands.

  • Thinking about continuing the Saint Saya dub, but would like to see more people buying the box sets.

  • They are looking into more CPM titles, and were actually looking at getting these titles before CPM filed for bankruptcy. They are also very interested in Genenon titles as well.

  • CPM dubs will be used instead of all new ones.

  • 30 mysterious Switchblade titles are in queue for licensing.

  • ADV is also looking at toys, and video games. But as you know, they can’t confirm or deny it as always.

  • ADV embroidered shirts? They are thinking about making them! (OMG there is a god!)

  • ADV states the economy is terrible :-(

  • ADV is afraid they are next. They huddle in the corner holding a shotgun while crying softly.

  • ADV thinks Scottish animation will save the world.

So that’s it. Basically, they are looking for more stuff, but they are mostly concentrating on old anime series and pushing it online on Anime Network. But it was mostly about how much the anime industry sucks right now, and what they must do to survive. However, they were really cool and gave out a lot of DVDs with group rock, paper, scissors.
