Anime Central 2009 FUNimation industry panel

Anime Central 2009 FUNimation industry panel photo

FUNimation had a completely different atmosphere than its emo predecessor. This one felt like some kind of rock concert, but instead of rock music there were trailers (that had rock music) and release dates; hell I head banged like a drunk muppet. Sadly, it only took FUNimation one minute to bust out an over 9000 joke. FUNimation, like Vegeta before a fight, cockily boasts that the economy can’t hurt them, with over one third of the market, and 17% growth of new products. Check out some more important points from their panel after the jump.

  • Important announcement: FUNimation is now working with Comcast so that they may show free video on demand of their anime. This is another great step towards spreading the FUNimation channel on more televisions as well; but plans haven’t been made yet.

  • FUNimation knows we like free anime. FUNimation has over 500 episodes on their video site.

  • FUNimation mentions animevice and not Japanator; f#$%@!

  • Kenichi is super hot, and you can expect part 2 to be out June 16.

  • D.Gray-Man second release to be released on June 23

  • Big Windup now available on streaming sites. If you like base ball check this one out.

  • Heroic Age first part will be released May 12.

  • Romeo X Juliet first 12 episodes on June 23. The dub is supposed to kick ass, using real Shakespeare lines mixed into the dialogue.

  • Kaze no Stigma, 12 episode release June 36. Ninja chicks with fire; hot stuff! (sorry)

  • They are also releasing all of Samurai Champloo in one epic pack. As well as all of Beck, on May 28.

  • Another over 9000 joke. Ugh.

  • Sgt Frog is coming, but when is the real question. Same with When They Cry box set, second season is up in the air though.

That’s it for FUNimation. Mostly the same old ‘these are our products, get your drool on’ presentation. At least there wasn’t any crying. But if you are doing so great FUNimaion, where are my free DVDs!
