Anime Corner Store's 'sustain the industry' challenge

Anime Corner Store's 'sustain the industry' challenge photo

I was checking out Rob's Anime Corner Blog, and noticed that they posted an interesting deal: a $25 gift certificate to fans who post a video highlighting what they've purchased from the store in the comments thread of a video about helping the anime industry survive.

We've talked about this endlessly, so I won't go on too long about it.

What I will do, though, is invite you to check out the video down below the jump and let us know what you think about the promotion and what TheRAofEdwardElric has to say. It's a pretty easy way to get yourself $25, isn't it?

Did you know? You can now get daily or weekly email notifications when humans reply to your comments.

Can I post about what I bought from TRSI to help save the industry?

Or does he not care about that? :P
we live in a free market economy, those that can't make it don't deserve to survive.

stop complaining, anime industry, you're not going to get a bailout like your brother, the financial industry.
Buy some stuff once in awhile, it won't hurt anyone. Obviously these people have a lot of disposable income, so for the rest of us unemployed via mass layoffs or can't find a job out of college, I hope they're making up for us.
@ Fission2

Im sorry but that logic is just stupidly flawed. In a true free market people cant steal or take their products for free. The Anime industry is perfectly capable of "making it" or at least it would be if half its consumer base didn't just steal what they wanted.
Okay then, just go in and buy what they license, and not pay attention to what's going on in an anime's place of origin? Come off it, damien007.

At any rate, some of my collection was at one time "stolen," yet I bought the stuff I decided to keep when it was licensed on DVD and now Blu-ray. The industry's problem is too many people "stealing" merch that's not even out over here, and not giving enough of a damn to buy a series they liked every once in a while.

RACS is cool though. I buy the bulk of my anime from them, so long as it's recent stuff no older than 3 years licensed. Try 'em out, especially if you order more than an Benjamin of merch.
piracy is a market condition, even if it's not legal. if the anime industry can't adapt to it, why should they be allowed to survive? the reallocation of capital is based so that what needs to be made is made, not to continue producing items of inferior demand and reeving that up with artificial consumerism.

plus, it has been proven through multiple studies in multiple fields that people, when given the choice, would rather obey the law than not. the only reason why piracy exists, in essence, is because anime is not competitive enough to satisfy consumer demand, or is too highly priced from its intrinsic value. that's the theory about how all black market economies work, look it up.
Im sorry if I came off as a bit heavy handed. I'm not necessarily saying im completely against streaming and other form of piracy. I just disagree with the idea that the problem lies with the industry and not consumers. I should more clear I'm sorry.

Morally don't you think its a little silly to suggest that the responsibility is on producers to deal with piracy. And how exactly can the Anime industry compete with getting something for free. Piracy is not a black market, because in a black market goods are illegally brought and sold, not distributed for free. The obligation is on consumers to obey the law, not on producers to just try and compete with it.
