Anime 'Shiki' means 'Corpse Demon' but involves vampires

Anime 'Shiki' means 'Corpse Demon' but involves vampires photo

You know it's a strange world we live in when an anime whose name is constructed from the characters "corpse"and "demon" is actually about vampires. I'd think that a "corpse demon" would be more akin to a zombie, but maybe that's just me pining for an adaptation of High School of the Dead.

In any case, Shiki is based on the horror manga and novels written by Fuyumi Ono, who also wrote Twelve Kingdoms, which some people tell me is the best anime I haven't seen yet. That's a big claim, since those who tell me that know I'm watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

The show takes on a mystery angle as Natsuno Yuuki investigates a series of murders within a rural village that she's just moved to. Apparently, the people doing all the killing are vampires. Mystery solved?

As I trust the people who tell me Twelve Kingdoms is great, I'll be chalking this one up as one to watch in the coming year. Anyone else interested, or are you too pining for an adaptation of High School of the Dead?
