Annotated Anime: Summer 2012 Week 2Hello, and welcome to Annotated Ani-STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT!!! Oh, oh jeez, I can't make a witty introduction anymore. Yuru Yuri has ruined me. What isn't ruined, thankfully, are our recaps of Accel World, Yuru Yuri, Phi Brain, Space Bros., and AKB0048. Just as well, we've got some fresh new First and Final Impressions writeups! Final Impressions: Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine First Impressions: Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse Chris Walden Yuru Yuri ♪♪ Episode 2
No time is wasted showing Kyouko being Kyouko, as we get to see her put off doing homework. Seems like a familiar scenario, right? However, it becomes pretty clear she isn't going to do it, and instead spends her time trying to get the answers from Yui. If we get to see more rock-paper-scissors in the future, you won't hear any complaints from me! There were also the skits on nicknaming and cold prevention. I'm not sure about you guys, but I feel that Yuru Yuri has stepped it up a notch since the last season? I might be imagining it, but I certainly hope that they aren't about to burn themselves out too quickly. Rotten banana. The highlight of the episode came with the snake problem, where we get to see the student council dealing with a scaly intruder. I think that Sakurako should be getting far more screen time anyway, so watching her tussle with a snake was pretty fun to watch. Another episode without someone screaming Toshinou Kyouko, but I feel it's only a matter of time. Click here for god tier. [These schoolgirl shenanigans can be observed for educational purposes on Crunchyroll!]
Phi Brain Season 2 Episode 14
Elena breaks some rules and wonders why people have a problem with it. Three people return to the show and I'm not sure which one of them annoys me the most. Freecell has his shirt unbuttoned for just enough time to allow the doujin scene to jot down some ideas. I briefly consider dropping the show until I see the episode preview shows off a puzzling dog. I just can't resist. [You could watch this on Crunchyroll, or you could do something more fun, like force matches up your nose and snort fire]
Space Bros. Episode 15
Looks like the old man got his replacement glasses just in time, what with the crazy puzzle they have to complete. It seems to me that JAXA are trying their best to aggravate those in the exam, as shown by the alarm. As for the sabotaging of the clock? I imagine he was told to do that during his daily check-up with the doctor. I feel this will all be resolved before long, as I really don't see Namba missing out on a pass. That said, I don't think anyone in their chamber will either, but we'll see. It certainly seems that the hotshot who is with Namba's friend isn't going to be proceeding any further. Good riddance! Can we bring the dog back though? [This show is blasting off again via Crunchyroll]
Josh Tolentino Accel World episode 13
Snow Black goes on her school trip. That means disaster, given how well she's kept everyone out of trouble by virtue of being an awesome girlfriend. To balance that out, Chiyu has joined the legion, and is a green fighter named Lime Bell. That's important, because she's the third ever character with healing powers. That's kind of insane, given that Brain Burst is a fighting game. A healer in a fighting game?! OMG HAX!!! Also, a new player's introduced onto the field, some chick that's using Burst Linking to win at Kendo, just like Taku used to do. Who is she?! Find out next week! [Accelerate into the show on The Anime Network]
AKB0048 episode 11
Oooh! So much drama! Sensei-Sensei's made a new song, the first new one since Acchan the 13th disappeared into a cloud of light! And it's NOT starring the successors! Envy and determination abounds! Also, war! It's a revolution on Lancastar, Nagisa, Orine and Yuuka's home planet, which is now a blasted ruin. Their school is closed and old boyfriends are now wota guerrillas, and the hilarious part of it is that Yuuka's old flame is a fan...of someone else. OH SNAP! And the insult on top of injury? Orine has been making war robots this whole time! She never went to school, and it turns out she was fueling the horrible anti-idol army! Double snap! I love this show.
Pedro Cortes Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse Episode 2
As I predicted last week, most of the girls that we were introduced to died HORRIBLY. In fact, most of the people that we met in the last episode met a pretty awful end. After the lines in Kyoto get overrun, the girls go out to try and defend their position, but it becomes clear that there's no chance that they can stay where they are. Yui and the remaining survivors decide to fall back, but find that the Laser Class BETA are able to fire at lower angles. Only Yui, Izumi and Kazusa make it to the rally point, and that was with the help of their instructor, who sacrificed himself to cover their retreat. When the three make it to Kyoto Station, a Fort Class BETA pops out and causes Yui to crash and black out. She wakes up some time later with a busted mech, forcing her to jump out and enter the empty base on foot. Well, it's not really empty, as she find that the Soldier Class BETA are eating everything in site, including the corpse Izumi. Yui gets a radio message from Kazusa who is injured and stuck in her mech while the BETA are trying to enter it. She begs for Yui to kill her before she's eaten, but is a bit too late. The BETA rip into her mech and, well, rip into her. Yui is about to join her friends in death when a sweet-looking Takemikazuchi enters and decimates the BETA. Yui wakes up in a triage center and weeps at the destruction of Kyoto. The episode ends with time jumping three years into the future, with Yui continuing her operations against the BETA. Wow, that was a helluva way to set up a back story. The tone has been appropriately set, what with the destruction of Kyoto and, presumably, the rest of Asia and Europe. I'm quite interested to see where they take this, as things do not look good for humanity in general. I can also imagine that Yui is a different person years later, what with the destruction of her home town and all. [You can watch Total Eclipse over at Crunchyroll!]
Moblie Suit Gundam AGE Episode 38 & 39
So what have we gained from these episodes of AGE? Well, for one Ezelcant is out of his damn mind, thinking that Kio is some sort of resurrection of his dead son. There's also the fact that Asemu is a terrible father. I mean, asking the son that has never met you to trust him during a rescue operation? Please. Also, Kio is just as stupid as his father, leaving the rescue operation to check up on a dying girl. Yes, I know that he had a thing for her, but when you gotta go, get the eff out. Next the Lelilis looks pretty neat, even if it's still Gundam costly. Also, Ezelcant is as good of a pilot as he is insane, which is pretty damn good. Speaking of insane, Ezelcant reveals his true plan: he wants to create a new human race made of intelligent, non-violent people. Yep, genocide in the name of creating a superior race. Utterly bat-shit crazy. He's so damn nuts that he can send Kio into a hallucination with an X-Rounder blast. Well, Ezelcant blows the AGE-3 apart, so what else is there for Kio to do but dock with the G-Cepter and get the AGE-3 blown apart AGAIN. The only thing that saves Kio is the fact that the pirates are, you know, pirates, and bring a couple of fake giant asteroids and aim them at the Vagan base. Sigh, this show. Did you know?
