It's another entry in the ongoing saga: "What's the Next Distinctive Idol Group?" This time around, Avex is looking to audition juvenile delinquent girls -- a.k.a. "yankees" -- for a new idol group to be managed by Bari Bari Records. Unlike typical idols with their purity and innocence, the idea here is to find the ultimate "tough idols."
Girls can submit applications consisting of photos, profiles, and recommendations to the Yankee Idol Audition. They will be judged on their values and lifestyle, as well as the usual talent/looks requirements. The girls need to have lots of attitude and energy, but Avex also sees this as a way for the girls to leave behind some of their bad behavior and get a new start.
I'm interested to see what the finished product looks like, if only because this is basically the opposite of a typical idol group. Sure, the selected girls will probably look good, but the image is going to be completely different, almost approaching the edge of a hard rock band. I can only hope that their producers don't pick a gimmicky name that imitates AKB48, like every other gimmicky idol group out there.
