Aww, puppies! Check out the most popular Japanese puppy names photo

Mari was sweet enough to translate Anicom's list of the top puppy names in Japan. Really, I'd give her one of the above Shiba Inu if I could.

So, what's the top puppy name of 2007? "Choco." The equally cute "Marron" (chestnut) takes second. The Japan Times says that these names are often given to brown dogs, regardless of their gender. Of the 68,000 pet insurance records of pups, there were 1,487 Chocos and 1,283 Marrons. Actually, Choco has been the number one name in Japan for three straight years.

Here's the rest of the top ten:

  • 3. Momo
  • 4. Sora : (sky in Japanese)
  • 5. Hana : (flower in Japanese)
  • 6. Coco
  • 7. Chocolat
  • 8. Sakura : (you all know these...)
  • 9. Nana
  • 10. Moca
What did you name your pup? Mine is named Ein, which is the new "Benji." I have another named Pikachu.
