AX 10: FUNi licensing most of summer and more photo

That's a lot of licenses, and it all happened so quickly that we never even managed to boot up our proprietary Japanator Licensing Bingo machine. Sorry, dear readers. You'll have to make do with this picture of Hans Landa.

As might have been implied in this post's headline, and our own Jeff Chuang was there to hear it all, including the revelation that a considerable chunk of this season's new anime (which we previewed here, here and here) would be simulcasted, including Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Shi-ki, and the second seasons of Black Butler and Sengoku Basara. The live-action Moyashimon dorama series was also licensed, and will start flowing through a certain series of tubes on July 8th.

Speaking of things with "A Certain" in their titles, FUNi also announced 2011 licenses for A Certain Magical Index and its spinoff, A Certain Scientific Railgun. Joining them would be the second season of Darker than Black, the Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVA, new volumes of Hellsing Ultimate, and a raftload of Shakugan no Shana properties, including TV season two, the OVA, and the movie. Topping the cake, though, was the announcement of Trigun: Badlands Rumble, the Trigun movie which Sakuracon attendees might have seen in April

Had enough? Too bad, because there's more! And by "more" I mean "refugees from Geneon", in the form of licensing arrangements for Texhnolyze, Ai Yori Aoshi, Armitage III, Haibane Renmei, Hellsing TV, Serial Experiments Lain, Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi Universe, the Tenchi Muyo! OVAs, and the Tenchi Muyo! movies.

Whew! Times ahead look pretty busy, don't you think?

More Black Lagoon and Hellsing always makes me happy. Hope they can get the original dub cast back for them.
All I wanted was just one anime to be announced like season 2 of Darker than black but they also got Railgun and Index and Trigun movie and even more. Thank you funi.
The first two Tenchi Muyo OVA series from the 1990s were the first anime I ever saw uncut and unspoiled (on both VHS and DVD). It would be nice to see them again, preferably with the old voices.
Glad to see Lain and Haibane Renmei will be in print again. Both are excellent series that should be in print.
*sigh* If only light novels were being picked up this fast...
Good to see stuff getting picked up, It is good to see Lain is in print again, but just got my copy about a month a go so not that hard to get...maybe it still about in the UK, all this things being in the UK but not USA or visa vie makes it hard to know what is what. and I am super stoked to see the Hellsing OVA is coming back.

I hope that I can get all of this anime goodness and hope it comes out on blu-ray and in the UK.
Shana S2!!! FINALLY! Wasn't it one of the first anime ever to be produced in HD?
OH HALLELUJAH HAIBANE RENMEI BACK IN PRINT.

WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH JOY I FEEL AT THIS.
It almost feels like the old days with the number of licenses that Funi had to announce yesterday. I wonder if this is it for them for the con season, or if they still have more titles to announce later.

I will get Index & Railgun, and probably Shana ... though it's been long enough that I'm not sure how interested I am in that one anymore. Don't need any of the rescues, but it's nice to see them coming back in print.

heero yuy, the first anime in HD were in SPRING 2007, shana 2 was fall 2007 so it's in the 2nd batch of "first HD anime"

and it wasnt very good >.
Index and Railgun, soooooooo good.
Wonderful! It's about time they license S2 of Darker Than Black and Shana.
Lain!! :)

see you in the wired!!
Honestly, I'm surprised it took them this long to get a hold of the older Tenchi stuff. Maybe we'll see a western release of the Tenchi Blu-rays now (a man can dream, can't he?). Oh, and they need to license Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari.

@The-Excel You can be sure that Funimation will keep the old English dub on any re-released Tenchi stuff. They did their best to bring back the old Geneon dub cast for OVA3, after all.
Fuck yeah Tenchi Muyo!
*strokes old pioneer Tenchi box set*

Yes, yes. You're still special.
