If you're unfamiliar with the history of the tanuki, you may have been a bit shocked if you saw the Studio Ghibli film Pom Poko and saw them unfurl their testicles for use as a sitting mat, parachute and more. Of course, this is nothing to be ashamed of in the creature's folklore, and you can see even more of it in the art of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, a ukiyo-e master who depicted the animals acting out all forms of activities with their generous scrotums in tow.
Check out the gallery or see the full selection of pictures over at Pink Tentacle. Of course, your first instinct is to laugh, right? It's pretty hilarious to think of your balls being stretched into some sort of epic portable tent. Could you actually hang art like this in your house though, or would it just be too weird to handle? (I'd love to hang it in my bathroom just to f*ck with my guests).
Classic Japan.
