Anime's greatest robot manzai comedy duo is back! I am, of course, referring to Drossel von Flugel and her butler Gedachtnis, the stars of Fireball.

In case you didn't know what Fireball is, it was a 2008 series of two-minute CG-animated shorts written and directed by Wataru Arakawa and animated by Toei and Disney Japan. It never crossed the pond for various reasons (the least of which is likely that manzai might not translate very well for Disney's typical target demo), which is a shame, because despite not having mouths, Drossel and Gedachtnis were easily among the most expressive CG characters I've yet seen. Their voices, provided by Miyuki Kawasho (Shugo Chara's Saaya) and Toru Ohkawa (Fullmetal Alchemist's Roy Mustang), played no small part.

And now they're back in Fireball Charming set to premier this April 4th. Sweet new CG, more Japanese wordplay, and more awesome poses by Drossel are a guarantee.

I'm not completely sold on Drossel's new design (check the gallery for the original). Emphasis seems to have been moved from dem robot hips to dem robot thighs, and the lady's traded her alloyed twin-tails for a long...fin-thing. She does have some sweet foot-less leg-parts, which remind me of my beloved Aegis.

Then again, it was always about Drossel striking awesome poses with every line, and from the looks of the trailers below, she certainly does.

Hmmm... I don't know about the new design. I think I prefer the old style.
well, for whatever the reason, disney sucks for not bringin' this over here to the states!!
Fireball is badass :3
I was all excited like crazy excited.

Then I see they have fucked up Drossel and made her terrible.

I hate her new face, I hate her new giant Alien style fin thing, I hate her giant Chun-Li legs, I hate her ball joint torso and most of all I hate her round funky eyes.

This is the worst, I shall cling to my Drossel Figma in disgust of this impostor.

I am mad as hell.

OTAKU RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.
Man I love how she looks more like a robot now, and all those robophiles are crying about it. I GUESS YOU'LL HAVE TO GO BACK TO FAPIN' TO XJ9 NOW, SORRY.
@Crobdan

New Drossel presents an interesting dilemma, because to me she looks both more and less robotic.

She's more robotic because she looks less human (i.e. weird head, unnatural proportions, exposed mechanisms, etc.), but at the same time she looks more unlike robots that humans have built so far. Old Drossel looks like a (very) advanced version of the existing Sony QRIO or Honda ASIMO robots.

It's an interesting trade-off, and truth be told, the new design is already beginning to grow on me.
That first trailer may be one of the fastest paced trailers I've recently seen.
I just watched Fireball because of this post. 30 minutes well spent.
@Josh

Honestly, her looking less like a robot that humans would build makes more sense for her character. I mean, from what I can remember they're, what, FIGHTING HUMANITY? If anything, she should have looked like this from the beginning.
That show I seen the shorts before in all honesty Japanese try to make it into a educational kid show. I guess its a real change from cute to something else.
