Takeshi Kitano is, to put it simply, the man. He's done pretty much everything over the years, from painting, and writing, to acting, directing, and even developing games. His last major success came in 2003 for his portrayal of Zatôichi, the blind swordsman. Some of you may remember him from his other roles in films like Brother, and Battle Royal. Others may recognize him from Spike TV's often racist, and somewhat controversial (also, not funny at all) MXC, which reuses footage from his show Takeshi's Castle that aired in Japan during the late 80s. No matter how you recognize him though, one thing is for certain--the man is incredibly talented.
Recently, Takeshi announced that he was already working on a new project. A month into filming, the details for the film are rather sparse. No name has been released yet, but it's said to have an all star cast of male leads and the plot centers around a Yakuza. With any luck, I'll be hearing more details sooner rather than later. I've always enjoyed the Yakuza films he's starred in, so I've got my hopes up. I'm not sure if it's his dark humor that makes them so good, or just his ability to dead-pan any situation. Either way, I really hope it's good, since his last major film, Zatôichi, really lacked.
