Big Windup not getting a second season due to poor sales photo

On Friday's ANNCast, FUNi reps confirmed that the company is not going to license the second season of A-1 Picture's baseball anime Big Windup because the sales were so low, which to them says that there's not enough of an audience for the series, although that supposedly won't stop them from licensing other sports shows in the same genre.

I don't get it. Big Windup was a great show.

I suppose sports series are just a tough sale in the US of A, the land of sports? The cross-over between the sports fans and anime fans are pretty slim, I realize, but even for someone who doesn't regularly watch baseball, Big Windup was an easy sell. It's got fantastic animation, great storytelling and even some typical spineless protagonist for your enjoyment.

This is just a reminder that if you enjoy a show, buying the DVDs is the only way to show your support. Downloading wallpapers, buying merchandise goods and running torrents for the show aren't going to keep the market going. You have to put your money where your fandom is and actually support the people who put time and effort into making it available to you.

[Thanks for tipping me off, Gia]

The title of the article and the article itself is very misleading.

The title makes it sound like the show ITSELF isn't getting a second season. Which is not the case as the show IS getting a second season. Funi just said they would not be licensing the 2nd season because of poor sales.

They also said they were hesitant to release anymore sports anime because of the lack of interest in Big Windup stating it makes no sense to releasing a genre that didn't sell to begin with.
That sucks, I didn't watch the show, but I can understand the anger of the fans. Funimation did the same thing a couple of years ago with Kodomo no Omocha, they didn't release the second season because of bad sales, and that's the season I really wanted to see...
The misleading title gave me a slight heart attack.
FUNi's choice is understandable.
Sorry, when dealing with 60 character headline limits, something like this happens.
I still haven't watched it, but I bought both Big Windup DVD sets because I do love baseball. I'm disappointed that it didn't sell well enough for Funi to pick up the second season, but I give them credit for being smart about it.

You can't keep pumping out DVDs that people aren't buying if you don't want to be the next Geneon USA, and Funi was at least good enough to let fans know not to expect season two to come out in the U.S. It's better than being left hanging.
Yeah I was kinda of surprised that Funi did say straight up they are not getting the 2nd season.

It kinda makes me realize that all those other shows people keep bugging them about and not getting answers for are probably really trying to be acquired
Oh man, that title scared the shit out of me. I finally got around to finishing Big Windup (stopped around episode 8 for some reason a few months back) and I was really looking forward to a second season. Still, that's pretty bad news I have to say. It's a shame too, I brought the DVDs to my anime club and people seemed to really like it.
I was waiting for a complete box set, but screw you FUNi, keep your bad news to yourself.
Understandable move on their part.
@ slickwataris: FUNi is not S0ny. They don't have enough cash to cover their arses by continuing to push a poorly selling series on this side of the Pacific (like the S0ny did with PS3 until last year).
I never cared about baseball or watched the show but i still feel the angfer the people do because the show is going out
I didn't like baseball before I watched this anime. It's not fair it's a really great anime. I'm so mad that the second season isn't going to be aired on the funimation channel. I'm also really mad that this anime isn't going to be dubbed. Most anime is better dubbed in my opion. When it's in sub it's so much harder to understand. I wish I knew how to speak Japanese. Then I could understand the subbed episodes better.
THEY NEED TO CONTINUE THIS ANIME AND HAVE IT IN ENGLISH DUB
