Blade gets anime adaptation

The Marvel anime train keeps on rolling. Not content with animating Iron Man, Wolverine, and the X-Men, Madhouse has turned its sights on Blade, the black dhampir who hunts vampires. Animax has put together a site for the upcoming series, detailing the staff working on it.

Mitsuyuki Masuhara will be directing the anime, which may be an odd choice, because while he has done episode directing on Gungrave, Shigurui: Death Frenzy, and Tenjho Tenge, his main directing credit is for the super-sweet Chi's Sweet Home. Kenta Fukasaku, the writer for the Battle Royale film and writer/director Battle Royale II, will be providing the script.

Akio Ohtsuka will be voicing Blade, likely drawing on his experience as Solid Snake, Black Jack, and Ghost in the Shell's Batou. Tsutomu Isobe (Dutch in Black Lagoon) will be his likely deep-voiced partner Deacon Frost, while Osamu Saka (Aramaki in Ghost in the Shell) will portray Noah Van Helsing. Maaya Sakamoto rounds out the cast by playing an original character named Makoto. There's no word if some amazing casting might happen for the US, like getting Wesley Snipes to voice Blade.

There's a preview video to check out on the site that doesn't really reveal anything, though it does give the anime a date of July 1. Are you interested, or has Marvel/Madhouse collaborations burnt you one too many times before?
