I was just gonna post something about this...Apparently China will pass the US by 2030. Sadly I didnt even know Japan was number 2 untill I read that article. I would have figured it'd have been The U.K. or some otter European country.
True about national GDP, but the yearly average income in China is $3,600, while in Japan it's $37,800. U.S. is over $42,000.

I'm not surprised really, Japan has a very large population, and think of all the products that the Japanese make. They've been huge names in the electronics and car industries for decades, arguably some of the fastest growing consumer markets in America.
@Spike
Yes, part of the reason why it's so surprising is because China is in many regards still a developing country, yet their economy is still so powerful. One can give credit to the fact of their sheer numbers, but Japan has had the jump on them technologically for decades.

Yeah I saw this in today's news as well. Honestly, if you pay attention to economics, it's really not surprising. Japan, despite its access to very advanced technology and industry, has been in economic stagnation for a decade now, due to a combination of aging populace, unstable government, and the overall economic environment. China meanwhile, has no where to go but up (pretty easy when you're still economically classified as a developing nation) and despite the current economy, is actually doing quite well.
What'll be interesting to see is what happens in the following years and decades. Will China continue to modernize and ascend to a superpower capable of rivaling America? Or will the numerous internal problems it's currently suffering from bring it down from within?
Regardless, it looks like China is going to have a lot of political and economic clout in the near future. I just hope it puts it to good use.

the main reason why they annoy me is because I think someone posted a new comment, and I'm like, "ooh! A new comment!" because I apparently don't have enough to do so I check up on the blogs everynow and then... so yeah, letdown :(
Actually, GorZ... yeah as stated above: "the yearly average income in China is $3,600, while in Japan it's $37,800. U.S. is over $42,000."
Yeah... Your leaders may be rich (communist party; of course) but your people (average citizen) are very poor.
