For fans of turn-based strategy games, import gamers have it lucky when it comes to the
Super Robot Wars series of games. Given the abundance of Gundam units in the game, it's no surprise that there's another series of strategy games for just the Gundam franchise To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the
SD Gundam G Generation series, Namco Bandai is all set to release
SD Gundam G Generation Wars on the Playstation 2 and Wii this August 6th.
As its inspiration is SRW, the fan service is evident and unashamed. The multitudes of Gundam universes clash together, pitting Char Aznable together with Rau Le Creuset and Zechs Marquise, to create the greatest Gundam circle jerk of all-time. In this latest installment of the Series, G Generation Wars features over 700 units and 700 characters to command, as well as additional characters and units.
The best part of the series for me is getting to see several obscure mecha that have never seen animation. The units in the famed photo-novel Gundam Sentinel are all included, as well as some MS variations and manga-only units, like the Crossbones, Titania, Devil Gundam Jr., and the Grand Zeong. Another plus is the fact you can build your own army. If you want an army of nothing but the Big Zam, you can do it and the Federation will be crushed in no time. In this month's
Famitsu Magazine, the game received a score of 9 and three 8s, giving a total score of 33 out of 40. If you're interested, you can pick up the game when it comes out next month from
Play Asia.
For now though, enjoy the PV of the game after the jump as it features one of my new favorite scenes, Kira Yamato in the Freedom Gundam getting interrupted the Throne Trinity from Gundam 00.
