You might know HIMEKA: self-made French-Canadian anime fan took all she had to Japan, won a Japanese music talent search, and now is an anime song artist under Sony/Aniplex's record label. Unfortunately, it seems that she messed up badly on a live event yesterday and posted a terse apology on her website.
While it's hard to confirm what exactly happened, fans reported that she forgot the lyrics during a live performance of her new song from Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee, "Hatenaki Michi." Half way through the song, she ran off stage and never returned for the rest of the live event. As expected, some fans are up in arms about it.
Singers occasionally forget the lyrics to their songs, it's rare to see something like this. Thankfully, a lot of the Japanese fans also found that the whole affair kind of clumsy-cute, and quickly forgiving this foreigner for her excusable, language-related blunders. Then again, I guess that could be part of her charm to the Japanese?
We know how hard it is to perform publicly with your third language, with about a year of experience under your belt. Or maybe we don't; but you are living our dreams, HIMEKA! You can do it!
