Celebrate three decades of Macross with Macross FB7
Sometimes it's hard to believe that Macross is just about thirty years old now. It wasn't a terribly long time ago that I thought that it was all still Robotech. Bandai knows that, and instead of going back to the well of Space War I and the original Macross series to celebrate the franchise's third decade, they're opting to mash up - of all things - Macross 7 and the more recent Macross Frontier into a new 90-minute movie. Helmed by Macross 7 director Tetsuro Amino, Macross FB7: Listen To My Song! will have the cast of Frontier, including Sheryl Nome, Ranka Lee, and Skull Squadron stumble upon a bunch of "archival recordings" of Nekki Basara's Macross 7 rock band, Fire Bomber (hence the "FB7" in the title), chronicling their fight against a mysterious alien species, one different from the Vajra, the CG-animated foes of Frontier. Also, Sheryl and Ranka will be covering a bunch of Fire Bomber songs. Check out a preview of May'n and Megumi Nakajima doing exactly that below.
