Chris Rock to remake Kurosawa's High and Low. Seriously photo

Chris Rock x Akira Kurosawa.

That is a pairing that I never expected to see in my life. It's happening, though, and Black Voices has the details. Apparently Rock's next project is to be an adaptation of Kurosawa's modern-day thriller High and Low, in which kidnappers mistakenly abduct the son of an executive's chauffeur (rather than the executive's son), and are holding him for ransom.

The film is being penned by Rock and directed by Chris Nichols (Charlie Wilson's War, The Graduate and The Birdcage). So, at least on the directing end, we know it's in good hands. Interestingly enough, Black Voices mentions that the film was originally optioned by Scorsese back in 1999, although there's no word if he's still involved in this project.

So, um, yeah. I am totally up in the air with this title. I can't say if Rock has the cajones to remake a film from one of the greatest Japanese directors in history. All we can do right now is bide our time and hold out hope.

wat
what is this o_o
wo way!
I suspect that Rock may well be able to pull this off.
Wake me up when Tarantino announces he's doing Black Lagoon. THAT'S a match made in heaven, IMO.
What the shit?
@Cyberlink420
I think your on to something ^^
@Cyberlink420
That's like, the perfect combination of director and subject material. I think the only problem would be if Tarantino decided to make it like Inglorious Basterds and make it too wordy.

On topic, as usual, I am cautious. Admittedly, it looks like they have a relatively decent director this time. Not too sure about the Chris Rock part though.
Bwahaha, this sounds hilarious.
@Gee-Man
Too wordy? Not enough words, I thought. The best part about IG was the conversations. The action scenes were basically things you had to sit through between the almost palpable tension of the conversations between the characters, Colonel Landa, Shoshana, everyone.
Oh god, I can't wait.
What ever happened to that modern remake of Seven Samurai set in New York?

Ah well. Keeping this guy's work alive is a good thing
Kurosawa: Now with more jokes!
What is it with Chris Rock and films these days? He's a fantastic comedian, but all he's doing for film is just taking foreign ones already made. "Why Did I Get Married" (French film), "A Death at the Funeral" (British film) and now a Japanese film...

Also, I wouldn't worry about too many jokes. When he remakes these films he pretty much sticks to scripts note-for-note.
