that's like the difference between a PNG saved 300 times, and a jpg saved 10 times >.< . Jpg ftl. anwho, i never trust those tvs...a lot of them are rigged to look the SD look much worse than it really does (especially ones at best buy). Either way, I'm sure it will be awesome in bluray for real

I'm sorry, but that small of a difference shouldn't justify buying the $600 CSS bluray set... I mean, sure it's obvious in freeze frames, but when it's moving the difference in this case is barely noticeable assuming your DVD player isn't lower-end...

Most of the time if something is noticeable in freeze frame that means it will be that much MORE noticeable while in motion.

Either way I would love for this to come out in the US although I highly doubt it ever will. It's not that easy to find Card Captor Sakura nowa days unless you want a bootleg or to watch it fan subbed which really isn't my thing.

Its most likely that youre gonna use the Blu-ray on the PS3, which already has a great upscaler that can make any DVD look good on HD or amazing on an SDTV.

This is the case with most Blu-Ray editions and why they are selling so bad. Your average Joe will barely see the difference let alone justify the prices for that much.

While I'd kill for another american release of CSS (I missed the first one and only got lucky through some pioneer bootlegs at a convention), six hundred bucks? Uweh?

@reibooi: Actually that's where you can be wrong. Alot of the times they have to sacrifice framerate for quality of each image, so it doesn't necessarily look better. Though, assuming its well encoded and you have a good 2nd gen or later bluray player you should be fine (or a ps3).

Wrong.

I bought Justice League vol. 1 on DVD early last year, and then they released the same volume on Blu-ray over the summer. The difference in quality is HIGHLY noticeable, in terms of line art, sharpness, color quality, and a whole lot more. If you're able to, I highly suggest looking at them for comparison.

So was Justice League, but again, it looks freaking amazing on Blu. Animation actually scales better than live action when it comes to making an HD transfer from a non-HD source.

I don't think you realize the difference between remastering something that was originally a digital series, thus it can be revectored, and a series like CCS that exists only on 32mm film.

Before you go trying to call someone blatantly wrong, perhaps you should do a little more research on the art of remastering and the differences between bluray and DVD data streams.

Comparing a major US production to a major Japanese production isn't a fair comparison at all, especially considering the remastering methods each situation for a series or movie my or may not require. For example, I wasted my money and bought Yukikaze on bluray a while back, and I own the regular DVD version as well. In that case there was barely any discernible difference between the two, probably due to the fact that although it was originally produced digitally, it seems for the bluray version they upscaled and remastered the DVD version instead of rehashing the original video data used to create the DVD release at a higher resolution.

Overall the point I'm trying to make is this: Sure, bluray overall looks a hell of a lot better than DVD assuming a studio does it right, but in the case of CCS where all they can do is remaster as best they can the original film, it's not going to be as impressive as where with your justice league example they had the original data for the show still sitting on a computer in a studio somewhere to work with.

The only way they'd be able to do the equivalent for a cel created show like CCS is if they had all the cels and manually reshot each scene with them.... ultimately it'd be a huge pain in the ass not to mention impossible since they don't have all the cels anymore.
