[While I'm not quite the foodie that Dale is, I still relish in the opportunity to cook, eat out, and try new things. Food, for better or worse, is my jam. It seems like a lot of you are similarly minded, considering the overwhelmingly positive response we got from Japanator Kitchen.
So today I bring you Totsu's Cooking Otaku series, which should be an interesting feature to watch as it evolves in the cblogs. Take a look at this debut entry and give the recipe a shot for yourself! -- Brad]
I know that every otaku out there now and then has watched an anime with some food in it. Thinking to yourself that "Hey that looks good but I don't know anything about Japanese cooking." Well never fear! I am here to get you on your way to cooking some delicious easy to cook Japanese food! Follow me and I will show you something new that you didn't know that you could do.
First up we have a donburi dish. Now donburi is basically "over rice". However what you top your rice with is up to you. I'll be showing many styles of donburi if I keep writing this blog. (All up to the readers) For now, let's make Super Sesame Chicken Donburi!
Gather your ingredients:
4 Chicken thighs
2 Green peppers
3 Tbsp. White sesame seeds
A. 2 Tbsp. Sake
1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. Soy sauce
1 Tbsp. Mirin (sweet cooking wine)
1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
2 Tbsp. Vegetable oil

Time to prep the chicken. Cut out the thigh bone of the chicken. This will help cutting the chicken later. If you want, you can save this for later after cooking.

Prep the green peppers too. Cut into strips and set aside.

In a hot skillet on medium heat. Put in the vegetable oil. Then place the chicken thighs in skin side down.

Cook until the skin side is a light golden brown. (about 10 minutes) Flip the chicken and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. Move the chicken to one side. Add in the green peppers.

Cook peppers till they look moist and slightly brown. Remove from the skillet. Try to soak up the excess oil with a paper towel. Flip chicken again and turn the heat on medium/high.

Once the chicken skin look crispy then add the sauce made with combining the A ingredients. Pour over chicken. Heat for only a minute or two. Remove chicken from skillet.

Make a bowl of rice. Slice chicken into strips. Place on top of rice with green pepper. Garnish with lots of sesame seed.

There you go!! You just made a Japanese dish without really thinking! Yatta!
Dig in and enjoy! Dozo!
(I was thinking about doing this blog every 2 weeks or so with a new dish, but if demand is high then I might do it once a week. It's all up the readers. Enjoy and comments are always welcome. Also please excuse the picture size.)
And now I'm hungry again...
