Discotek Media is on a roll today, and I was surprised to see that they would they would get a hold of Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo. The last time that we saw a Getter Robo series in the US was when Geneon released the 13 episode series known as New Getter Robo. 

Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo serves as an OVA to reintroduce the main cast of Getter Robo Go, which depicted them as their counterparts from the original manga. The plot may have been rushed with the four episode time limit, but the cast does go all out in a hot blooded manner that you can expect out of super robot shows. Brains Base was also involved with the animation, so fans of their work might be interested in giving it a go. 

The original Getter Robo was one of the first series to introduce the concept of combining robots, thus making it an important piece of history in the development of the genre. I personally think that it was a smart move for Discotek Media to release this series, so that it can remind fans about the greatness that is Getter Robo.

Discotek plans to release the OVA on DVD, but you can also expect a Blu-ray release in the near future.
