DM and EISYS teaming up to localize digital doujinshiThis is kind of a big deal and something I've been wanting to see for years. Digital Manga will be teaming up with Japanese digital doujinshi distributor EISYS (DLsite) to bring localized doujinshi to a variety of manga distribution sites on the net. A lot of folks view doujinshi as typically derivative fan-made comics using characters and stories from other properties, oftentimes making them into something unique. This isn't 100% true; the indie (doujin) industry in Japan encompasses original comics, art books, music, games and even video as well. It's a fascinating world that a lot of English speakers have no access to, so it's encouraging to see companies like DM start to make real strides in these areas. Their press release doesn't specify, but I'm going to assume this partnership will lead to localized original manga and maybe art books. I wouldn't hold too much hope for the derivative fan works; I can see that being a dangerous minefield in America. With indie games from Japan and now doujinshi even getting their time to shine, it's fantastic that westerners can finally see what all the fuss is about over here. Stay tuned for more news as it comes! Did you know? You can now get daily or weekly email notifications when humans reply to your comments.
