We all know already that the answer to the question is going to be an opinion. The opinion of someone you have never met or the opinion of yourself. I took a step backwards, had a look at anime these days and had an epiphany. A conclusion to the ‘does new anime suck’ question can be achieved by grinding the shows down and simply asking yourself, how much do you like pie?
Anime these days is quite alike to a pastry laden with delicious goodness. The problem we face today is that not everyone likes the same things you do. I dislike chocolate ice cream, but that is not to say that everyone hates it. If you do not like a slice of pie, then not everyone dislikes that slice of pie. Unless it’s Akikan flavoured pie. That stuff is nasty.
I digress.
You can slice this anime pie into five glorious pieces. A word of warning to you pastry lovers out there: these slices are so potent that you may only have to take a few bites to be fully satisfied. Remember, it is dangerous to go alone. Pie is always enjoyed with your other, pie loving friends.
The Moeblob Slice
Ah, the Moeblob slice. There is always a Moeblob slice. Each mouthful of this piece of pie is sickly sweet, so you are likely to get a mouthful of K-On! or Hanamaru Youchien. In before the one guy with the kindergarten joke, I’m beating you to it. If you only take a bite or two, you may be lucky enough to catch a romance sub-plot. The Moeblob slice is best served in small doses with a large helping of comedy custard.

A handy alternative: Banoffee Pie
The Bewbs and Pantsu Slice
This is a slice of pie that has an acquired taste. Not everyone will like it. Some people hate it, then grow to love it! Context is also an issue, so make sure you eat your pie in a thought out location and with correct timing. The recent recall of the deadly Queens Blade strain in pies all over the world has left a sour taste in the mouths of anime lovers, the Bewbs and Pantsu slice having to slowly recover to its previous glory. Consumers are reporting finding Chu-Bra!! and Ladies versus Butlers in their pies recently, so tread carefully for those of you with picky taste buds.

A handy alternative: Rhubarb Pie
The Fists and Fightan Slice
Tales of the Fists and Fightan slice have been passed down from generation to generation. Myths about taking a bite into GaoGaiGar and Hokuto no Ken are commonly spoken of in the anime community. What should we expect from the pie today? Seikon no Qwaser seems pretty common in the divide between this slice and the Bewbs and Pantsu slice, but you are sure to find a bit of Katanagatari in there. Rumour has it that in the pies of true men (and of course, Woah-Men), you may just sink your teeth into a chunk of tender Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku and promptly ascend into the great land of GAR.

A handy alternative: Steak and Kidney Pie.
(Questionable choice? That’s because REAL MEN eat STEAK AND KIDNEY PIE for their dinner, followed by STEAK AND KIDNEY PIE for their dessert. REAL MEN.)
The Pot Luck Slice
Everyone here will have taken a nibble from this slice. The supreme ruler of the cosmos and head chef always has ingredients to spare, and instead of waste them we end up with the Pot Luck slice. You have guts if you want to try a slice of this, because you never know what taste you’ll get when you sink your teeth into this unholy creation. You might find some Dance in the Vampire Bund. You could tear into a slice of Halo Legends. Weiss Survive R is also here. What I’m trying to say is be sure to have your favourite brand of mouthwash/whiskey when taking a large mouthful of this pie.

A handy alternative: Pumpkin Pie (Best before date varies)
The Rarely Seen Slice
You will find one of these pies in roughly every eight boxes of pie you purchase. It’s the secret figure of the pie world, a real rarity indeed. This is the stuff that people will be talking about, the graduates being such gems as Cowboy Bebop and FLCL. It is said that the contents are sweet and enjoyable, contain juicy morsels of all your favourite things and of course, a striking flavour that gives an impression that lasts forever. There are mixed records about the contents of the slice for this season. Some people say Durarara!!, others scream...well okay. I scream Durarara!! too. What have you found in your slice recently?

A handy alternative: Your favourite pie, in a deep bowl and smothered with awesomesauce.
On that note, it is worth stating that your slice of pie is nothing without its Animator Crust. If the pastry is not filled with experience, skill, time and effort, you will have a very soggy pie. Nobody loves a soggy pie.
Now if I still have your attention, I’d like to take us back to the original question. Does new anime suck? Well, it depends on how you like your pie I guess. We most certainly have had some delicious pie this season though.
