Dog crazy! Inubaka manga gets a live-action movie
by Dale North, 10/26/2009

My dreams have come true. Well, kind of.

Inubaka (Crazy for Dogs) is my favorite manga. Hands down. No contest. It meets all the Dale criteria: It's kind of silly, romantic, sometimes horny, and has lots of cute dogs in it. One other thing that I really like about Inubaka is that it reads like a Japanese romantic comedy television drama. I've always said that it should be a J-drama.

A movie? I'll take what I can get, I guess. The above trailer surfaced on the movie's official web page. It doesn't look fantastic, and doesn't even remotely compare to the full cast I had imagined in my head, but I'm going to watch it and love it anyway.

For those new to Inubaka, it tells the story of one kind of strange and dumb (but lovely) country girl that moves from home into the big city to take a job at a pet store. She has always loved dogs, including her own mutt, who once saved her life. She didn't necessarily want to work in a pet store, but when her mutt dog sneaks away to mount the shop owner's purebred lab, she has to repay him somehow.

And yes, the dog poops in her hand in this trailer.
