This could have been a great show. :( Would be, if they didn't butcher really good songs (WTF did they do to Wicked?!?). And if the way they built each episode wasn't completely retarded. The process is unfortunate, and it kills the series. I tried to figure out why some of the songs they sang were completely unrelated to anything going on...then found out that they don't actually plan script and songs together to begin with. Then I decided not to bother with it ever again.
So.. many.. people.. in my rez.. love this show.. don't.. understand..
Well, look, the concept is appealing to people who did things like that. Were in their HS choir clubs, or love musical theatre, or majored in theatre (like I did), or whatever. That's the reason I bothered to watch it to begin with. I went "Oh hey! That sounds like a TV I might actually get into." Unfortunately, the scripts are crap, and feel like they're written by 5 different people who never speak to each other or compare notes in any way. The process of choosing songs is not conducive to making them work within the show (many of them are entirely out of place), and some of them are totally absurd besides (some of those songs would get that teacher fired immediately at a real school). It's neat, it should have and could have been better. They need to take the music more seriously and decide if they're trying to be a serious show or a campy show, and amp it up on either end. Because it's not serious enough to be serious, and it's not campy enough to be camp; it's somewhere in the middle, which doesn't work.
