It has not been a good week to be Gundam models. Earlier this week, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck just outside the Tokyo area. Luckily, there was little to no damage and no loss of life. Today, another earthquake shook the area, this time a 6.5 on the Richter scale. Again, there was no damage to buildings or loss of life. However, there were several victims as their Gunpla and other merchandise fell mercilessly to the ground below. As pointed out on 2chan by Ngee Khiong, there were several posters noting how their collections were now just mere broken pieces. Collectors weren't the only ones affected, as several displays had also fallen over at the Bandai Hobby Center.
This is why I couldn't possibly live in areas prone to earthquakes. I don't know how I would react to watching my entire collection be destroyed before me. I do know, however, that I wouldn't attempt suicide by burning down the remains of my house or anything.
