According to a recent survey conducted by the internet research firm Macromill Inc, nearly 61% of married women in Japan have taken it upon themselves to pry into their husband's cell phone to check everything from e-mails to their call history. Seems a bit paranoid, right? Well, I'm sure it hasn't helped their growing divorce rate which, last I checked, was close to 27%. Out of the 500 married women between 20 and 39 years of age, roughly a third were worried about extramarital affairs, while another third claimed they were merely curious, and the rest seemed concerned that their husbands may be hiding something. Not to point out the obvious, but that kind of mistrust only creates more problems in a relationship, and honestly, if I found out any of my girlfriends had been going through my phone or e-mail without me knowing, the relationship would end there. Have any of you had this happen before?

With Michael Jackson's This Is It taking in nearly $200 million world-wide, it's no surprise to me that people are continuing to pay homage to the man, despite his odd behavior in recent years. Japan was no exception, having contributed roughly $27.2 million to that total alone. Riding on the apparent popularity of his death, Shiina Ringo recently starred in an ad for Watering Kissmint gum where she actually moonwalks. Really, Japan? Maybe it's just me--and don't get me wrong, his early death was kind of a tragedy--but I'm getting tired of seeing, or hearing about him. I get that he impacted so many lives, but at some point, the fad has to stop. At the very least, please try to hold off on moonwalking for a year or two, it's gotten annoying. See the commercial after the jump.

Name: Eriko Sato Birthdate: December 19, 1981 Home: Sapporo Sizes: 90/56/91 cm She might not be Aki Hoshino, but in my heart, Eriko Sato is definitely number one. With some pretty spectacular measurements and the gorgeous looks to go along with them, Eriko has managed to land plenty of modeling and acting gigs from the likes of Uniqlo jeans, to the starring role of the live-action Cutey Honey. Of all of her lovely features, her lips and smile are easily the most stunning, and constantly have me wishing that she'd be willing to share them. I suppose we'll just have to settle for drooling over our keyboards. You're Welcome. Also be sure to check out our past Idol of the Week posts.

If you're like me, you absolutely love the Ace Attorney series. From the legendary Phoenix Wright to the recent adventures of Apollo Justice, the series has done a wonderful job of bringing the visual-novel genre to America and proving that we can love them just as much as Japan when they're done right. Defending criminals against hardcore prosecutors and false testimony had never been so much fun. The latest title in the series, Ace Attorney investigations: Miles Edgeworth puts a new spin on things by giving you control of Phoenix Wright's long-time nemesis in his very own point-and-click adventure--which, by the way, is easily one of my favorite genres. As Miles Edgeworth, it becomes your job to lead investigations while attempting to use logic to build the perfect case. While I know some of you have had the chance to play the demo at Comic-Con, or elsewhere, I know that most of you haven't yet. Seeing as we've managed to get our hands on a copy, we'd love to share it with you. So, if you haven't already, feel free to check out the demo after the jump. [[Update: We experienced some minor issues with the demo earlier, but it's working now. Enjoy!]]

I have to admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for the Tekken series. It was one of the first fighting games for the Playstation and, at least in my opinion, was a step up from it's competition, namely Virtua Fighter and Battle Arena Toshinden. The character designs were definitely more original, and the plot wasn't bad either. The latest Tekken has finally hit consoles in North America, and it's easily the best looking game to grace the series to date, but does the game really live up to the Tekken name? After all, what good is the high res graphics if the rest of the game fails to deliver? Well, it does and it doesn't, but more importantly, what it does deliver makes it all worth it. Find out what I mean after the jump.

I know some of you probably don't follow the American rock scene very closely, let alone the Japanese one, but for those of you who follow both, like me, you'll love this. Slash's first single, "Shara," from his upcoming album Slash & Friends has hit the shelves in Japan, and features Koshi Inaba, the vocalist of B'z. The song is actually pretty awesome, not that I had any doubts going in, but that last Velvet Revolver album wasn't exactly something I thoroughly enjoyed. It also pleases me to know that the lyrics are entirely in Japanese. Inaba didn't have to go out of his way to try and sing in English, and I like that--after all, it's not always easy for Japanese vocalists. The catch, though? According to Slash's latest tweets, the song is only going to be included on the Japanese version of the album and I can only assume that means the single will remain a Japan-only release. Still, that shouldn't stop any of you from trying to track down a copy of the single on CDJapan because there's nothing wrong with importing it.
Take a listen to the song after the jump.

Recently, we were handed the latest list of characters that will be appearing in the upcoming Wii title Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. No, you won't get to play as Gackt, but I don't think that'll keep anyone from wanting to play it. Besides, how many other games give you the opportunity to pull of the patented Rider kick?
While I haven't had a chance to sit down with the game myself, the trailer seems to imply that the arcade mode will be fighting game with what appears to be a card-based battle system, and a separate mode seems to be included featuring Dynasty Warriors-style beat-em-up gameplay. I could be way off base with that Dynasty Warriors comparison though, but I really hope I'm not. I, for one, adore that game. I guess I'm pretty pleased to see America finally get a Kamen Rider game, not to overlook the fact that the show it's based on is the first series, since Masked Rider back in 1995, that we're seeing Kamen Rider air on American television. Japan has been getting Kamen Rider games for some time now, so naturally I've been a bit jealous. Kamen Rider Dragon Knight was originally scheduled to hit store in late December, but the title actually had its release date bumped up to November 17th, and will be released the same day as it's Nintendo DS counterpart--which, btw doesn't look so bad either. Check out the updated list of characters and the trailer after the jump.

I have to admit that this is the first cover I've come across in recent memory that actually looks worse than it's American counterpart, but we need to take what we can get. What you see above is the Japanese box art for the recent PS3 title, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
I suppose you have to do what you can to make a western game seem appealing to a Japanese audience, but you'd think they'd at least try to make it look a bit more attractive. The art doesn't really do much to convey any aspects of the gameplay aside from letting you know that your main character might be witty, and that he's accompanied by an old white guy and a woman who, at least, by the looks of it, isn't very attractive. Oh, and they decided to throw in a terrorist and a train. On the bright side, I'm sure the game is selling pretty well in Japan. The art isn't quite as bad as say... the American box art for Ico, but I still can't help thinking that better box art might have actually moved a few more copies over there. As for us? It's nice to know that we had better art this time around, but it won't be long before another piece of box art is ruined for the sake of appealing to the western market. It's inevitable.

Yoshitaka Amano's Toy Story-esque story about the secret life of vegetables in a New York kitchen will be making its way to the big screen. This is actually the first I'm hearing about the project, and having checked out the site, I'm not surprised about that. It turns out that series actually aired on an educational network--which I assume is the Japanese equivalent of Nickelodeon--with each episode having an incredibly short running time. The art looks really cute, though, and the premise sounds like something straight out of a Studio Ghibli film.
The theatrical version of Yasai no Yosei: N.Y. Salad will apparently use a mix of 3d technology with the pencil sketched art found in the television series. I admit I'm intrigued, but the fact that the series originally aired on an educational network has me a little worried. God forbid I actually learn something, right?
I will say one thing, though. Any art student who complained about having to draw still-life portraits of fruit and vegetables could learn a little something from Amano's example. At least he was able to apply it somewhere, and I'm sure he'll be taking that to the bank.

I happen to adore these guys. I'm not sure why I love them so much, but it probably has something to do with the fact that everything they release sounds immaculately produced. It's very hard to come by Japanese modern rock acts that sound this good, Of course, I can't say they're the only act who fit that criteria, but it almost seems that way these days. Then again, that can probably be blamed on the countless number of "indies" bands that plague the internet. Honestly, a little production know-how hasn't hurt anyone--infact, if anything, it prevents it. The video above is from their latest single, "Kanashimi wa Kitto." It features some gorgeous strings and an arguably typical, but still quite beautiful, J-pop melody. Despite the melody, it's easily one of my favorite releases to date this year. Check out a live performance after the jump.
