Satoshi Kon has been working on a new film for a while, however it was kept under surprisingly tight wraps. But thanks to a heads up from our pals at twitchfilm.net, we've seen that the official website has finally been updated with the first-ever pics. The story details are currently very sparse, perhaps the most info we've gotten is from the title itself: The Dreaming Machine (Yume Miru Kikai). I must say, for a much more kid-friendly style from Kon, it looks absolutely fantastic. The style has that dramatic fluidity of movement, even in these stills. I can't wait to see how it looks in action. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any other news that shows up. Kon has had quite a record under his belt, are you guys as excited as I am for this upcoming film? I'll be honest, my original post went like this: OMGSATOSHIKONFILMYESSSSWHOO *first pump* ALRIGHT!

Alot of people like Macross Frontier. And alot of people like the characters in it. Ranka? Sure, cute. Sheryl? Okay, she's not bad. Klan Klan? Heck, I wouldn't pass her up. But most people miss the real point. The honest-to-goodness truth, hidden deep inside Macross Frontier: Bobby Margot. The real soul, the real binding friend who held everyone together. Without Bobby, I believe everyone else you guys like would be dead, injured, or ruined. The real hero of Macross Frontier is Bobby, our bandana-wearing, smooth-talking, former hair-stylist friend. Except to me, he's more than a friend. Bobby Margot, I love you.

Now many of you avoid fan fiction, and I commend you. There's very few things worse in this world than reading about Reed Richards and Turtwig getting it on in a tree, but sometimes there are things a man just has to read. And when those weird, whacked out things exist, we bring them to you, and in the process, totally rip off our good friends at Topless Robot. Now I'm going to warn you, things are going to get strange from here on out, so leave now while you can. ... I'm not kidding around here. Leave. I'm exposing you to some sort of fetish, I'm not even sure what it would be called. Asuka stopped when her eyes finally locked onto Shinji's. "Wh-wh-why are you on my right hand?" she stammered. Instead of her right hand, a small miniature version of Shinji was sticking out of her right pajama sleeve.
Wait, I've got it! Erotihandism! That or Badfanfictionism. Hit the jump for more.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an influential anime series for many reasons: it's unique story (for its time), interesting characters (for its time), and exciting mecha designs (for its time). The reason for all those disclaimers? Now everyone and their mom has ripped off Evangelion. Evangelion has ripped off Evangelion! But that's not to say that Eva is a steaming pile of crap, no, rather its uniqueness created such a desire for similar aesthetics and stories. But I'm here to focus on the former: the art. Hit the jump for a trip into the powerful and striking design in the forefront of Evangelion.

This week is packed with new releases, from the heavy hitters like Evangelion 1.01, and other great releases from Black Jack and Pluto. Some re-releases as well, but overall a good week for anime and manga in general. I am most excited for Eva and Pluto, but that Black Jack volume is looking pretty tempting too. How about you guys? Are you guys interested in Eva 1.01, or would you rather hit up the Dragon Ball Z Box Set? At Japanator we're really excited about Eva and have a few articles lined up tonight and tomorrow for your perusal, so be sure to keep checking back throughout the day for some awesome stuff. In other news, I'm bad at doing this week in releases! (And crappy rushed photoshops.)

Our good friends over at AnimeVice recently got an email from Joshua Long, a Hollywood producer who's been pushing for the Cowboy Bebop live-action film for quite some time. His company has been renamed to 1212 Entertainment, and their work will focus mostly on adapting anime, manga, games, and French comics. Not sure about that last one. The Cowboy Bebop live-action film will stay under the name 3 Arts Entertainment, and Long tells Vice that some more news may be headed our way soon. Now I'm no expert in the movie industry, but I would think that solely dedicating your business to adapting other people's properties would be a difficult task. Not that I'm stopping Mr. Long or anything, but I think it'll be a tough road, so I wish him luck. If this whole Cowboy Bebop live-action film doesn't turn out horrible, then hopefully it'll be a smash hit and give them some dough to get the ball rolling on more projects as well. Now to be honest, this whole post was actually just a ruse to post more pictures of idols, and let me tell you, I love my idols. Indiana Jones doesn't have anything on me. Check out the mini-gallery below for idol awesomeness.

I'll be up front in saying this: Boom Boom Satellites is one of my favorite bands. With that out of the way, let me just say that they have really covered alot of ground in their musical career. From their unique jazz-influenced beginnings to their more modern drum-heavy electronic stylings, they know what they're doing and have done it well. Their most recent release, Back on my Feet actually marked a bit of a return to their older style -- which is no problem to me. This all said, if you are also a fan of Boom Boom Satellites, get your calendar out and mark this date down: November 24th at 7pm. They'll be performing at Santos Party House, the ticket price being a grand total of free. Me You Us Them will be opening for BBS as well. Superglorious has all the details and the form to RSVP if you want to go. Only limit? You have to be 18 or over. Sorry, underage Jtorians. I'll be doing my best to attend, hopefully I can see you guys there! [Image via .damien flickr]

Recently, blogs everywhere have been picking up on the "suggested search terms" the Google shows when searching. We've all chuckled at them at some point: we begin typing "best music video" and get suggestions about Kayne West interrupting. Google merely takes the most popular completed searches and shows them to you, before you search, which sometimes shows the weirder side of the internet. Such is the case here. People began taking a closer look at the top suggestions for typing in husband (夫) and wife (妻). In many ways, it makes for hilarious reading material. In other ways, it's really creepy. While searches for "wife" gave us suggestions such as "birthday present for wife?" or "ranking of birthday gifts" searches for husband were little more weird: "I wish my husband would die." Hit the jump for the full list of both, translation courtesy of Japan Probe. [pic courtesy of Getnews.jp]

Around the world, a collective sigh of relief is breathed by otaku everywhere. Steven Spielberg and Will Smith had been conspiring to remake the Korean film Oldboy (which was based on a Japanese manga). The absurdity of the idea seemed to encourage Spielberg more, saying he was actually not remaking the film, but adapting the manga. Ignoring the fact that they were casting Will freaking Smith in it, I think we all can say this was one Hollywood adaption we were really unsure about. Last we heard, the film was being put on hold as Futabasha and Show East argued over the rights. Now, Slashfilm is reporting (via the Latino Review), that the film is dead. Dropped quickly and unceremoniously into the coffin, the film was kicked after Dreamworks and Mandate (the Korean production studio) couldn't agree on the adaption. Dreamworks and Spielberg simply walked away from the deal and left it be -- apparently it was more trouble than it was worth. Given that even Steven Spielberg couldn't get the film up and running, I would guess that we're not going to see this being revived by any mad scientists anytime soon.

There's few things in this world more awesome than Gintama. Alot of us like the anime and manga, but a full blown movie? It sounded like the BEST THING EVER when it was announced. And now we have glorious, video proof of its awesome animation. Warner Bros. has begun streaming a trailer on the official website, along with a release period: Golden Week 2010 (and Golden week, as many of you know, is a collection of four holidays in one week, going from April 26th to May 9th). The website is pretty bare at the moment (only the trailer), but I'm sure more information will trickle out as the release draws closer. The subtitle does reveal some info: Shinyaku Benizakura-Hen, which means a retelling of the Benizakura arc. Also, I must say, the cherry blossoms on the webpage are a cute touch; absolutely perfect for the setting of Gintama. So how about it, Gintama fans, ready for this film? [via ANN]
