Those of you who can't wait for 3rd Birthday, Square-Enix's upcoming PSP sequel to the Parasite Eve series, might be interested to know that you might be able to avoid some obnoxious load times. If any of you have sat down with a copy of Crisis Core, you know exactly what I'm talking about when I say obnoxious. Needless to say, the game's director, Hajime Tabata, mentioned that they'll be offering you the option of installing the game on your memory stick -- or at least a portion of it. They haven't given any details yet regarding the exact size of the installation or if it'd eliminate the need for the UMD -- of which, I doubt -- but we can always hope. After all, those UMD drives are pretty noisy, don't you think?

First off, I hope the post header makes some of you not freak out this time. I figured anime girls would be good enough, but noooo, you wanted the image to have something to do with the post too! Sheesh! Second, wow, lots of stuff to listen to this week. Oh, and if you didn't already know, this is where we, the various and sundry editors of Japanator, talk about stuff we've been listening to a lot this week. How about you? What's been good for your ears this week?

[As posted on Destructoid] When I posted about Tokyo Jungle yesterday, I noted that the game promised something called "hunting action." Many of you took this to mean that Tokyo Jungle was yet another contender for Monster Hunter's dominance of the monster-hunting game space, except this time involving real-life endangered species. However, now that our available information level has upgraded from "blurry Famitsu scans" to "low-res Famitsu screens", you might be happy (or disappointed) to know that Tokyo Jungle is no Monster Hunter clone. Instead, it looks like a weird sort of side-scrolling action-adventure, where you play as an animal roaming the apparently depopulated city of Tokyo in the year 20XX. Yes, friends, they still use "20XX" as a year designation. The game's "story mode" takes you through a campaign focusing on the trials and tribulations of several newly liberated animals, including a racehorse looking for competition and a pomeranian looking for snacks. "Survival mode" has you, well, survive as any of over 80 selectable animals, including lions, tigers, crocodiles, beagles, and what is clearly a reference to Japan's genius chimpanzee, Pan-kun. Now, if you're wondering how, exactly, those crazy people at Sony thought of something like this, know that Tokyo Jungle comes from the PlayStation C.A.M.P. (for "Creator Audition Mashup Project"), a development initiative that spawned such titles as Echochrome, Patchwork Heroes, and the My Lord/Badman series. So yeah, weird. And totally desirable! Are you in? Will you be the controller animal?!

[As posted on Destructoid] The new trailer for Creative Assembly's latest Total War game, Shogun 2: Total War, is quite beautiful, and not just because of the pretty pretty graphics, but because it shows off some actual gameplay footage, rather than the vague teasers and cinematic-cut promos from earlier. In this first pre-alpha "battle report", Kieran Brigden and Ingimar Gudmunsson run commentary on a battle to show off Shogun 2's tactical AI, which is a thing that strategy grognards have given Creative Assembly a lot of crap for over the last few Total War installments (and rightly so). From what it looks like it appears to have improved from before. That said, my real problems with Total War AI came up at the strategic level, so I'll have to wait on another trailer to see if that's changed any. But that's another matter, for earlier I called the trailer "dishonorable". It certainly is, because Brigden dared call the Takeda faction "evil and dastardly". Such an affront to the Tiger of Kai, especially from a guy playing the barbarians in the Chosokabe clan! Jerk certainly deserved to be right buggered in the opening stages of the trailer. Check out the trailer below for six minutes of strategy fun, and the screenshots for pretty pretty graphics.

Currently out of work, or just hate your job to death? Well, here's a chance for some of you with work experience: Tokyopop is currently looking to hire for a Book Distribution Coordinator and Manga Line Editorial Coordinator. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? First off, these are LA jobs -- so be in the area or fib that you are to actually have a chance. With the Book Distribution Coordinator position, you'll be working in the retail environment, getting the books from Tokyopop to the retailers, manage supply lines and plan distribution strategy for each seasonal schedule. It's tough work, and requires three years' sales administration experience. The Manga Line position sounds a bit like my job -- coordinating a pool of freelancers by monitoring their activities and assignments, assist in acquisitions and schedule releases. They're looking for an overall well-motivated person with some social media and management experience, and knowing Japanese wouldn't hurt. Think you're up to snuff? Check out the pages for the full list of requirements and how to apply. Let us know if you do -- I'll be rooting for you! [Thanks, Gia]

Osamu Mukai knows he's way cooler than you. Apparently the Japanator Post Gods (I'll let you theorize who these might be) realized I truly wanted to use a Hanamizuki header last week, because this week is another one of those No Debuts to Report editions of Rock the Charts. This gave me an opportunity to lay down a clean shot of future Taira Yoshiyuki (in the upcoming BECK live-action adaptation), Osamu Mukai, emulating pure smug. Actually, there is a first of sorts to be seen here: the squeaky-clean RtC stamp. We're sea-lee-ous busy-ness-u now? Indeed. In terms of economical on-goings, this past week was a bust. Not the good kind of bouncy, impossible not-to-fap-to bust. Like, dollar totals dropped substantially and stuff. The past couple of weeks had not a single film within the top 10 moneymakers bringing in below $1 million--now only 6 can make that claim. This amounts to an overall haul of less than $20 million total; we're partially slipping back into pre-summer territory. It seems we're also reverting to pre-summer cinematic fare, as Pikachu makes its electrifying triumphant return to the chart. At least a Japanese-bred picture is keeping the top-spot at bay from Toy Story 3 by a decent (by Nippon's standards) margin. I would rather The Borrowers take that position, but some things just aren't possible. Hey, did you know that May Your Love Bloom for a Thousand Years was originally a song? It was. List and numerals now, totally unrelated (yet insanely awesome) video after the jump, because I've got nothing else for you. 1. Hanamizuki: May Your Love Bloom for a Hundred Years. 1st week, pulling in $4.7 million. 2. Toy Story 3. 7th week, pulling in $3.2 million. 3. The Borrowers. 6th week, pulling in $3.1 million. 4. The A-Team. 1st week, pulling in $1.8 million. 5. The Karate Kid. 4th week, pulling in $1.6 million. 6. Metal Fight Beyblade the Movie/Duel Masters the Movie 2010. 1st week, pulling in $1.4 million. 7. Inception. 5th week, pulling in $1.3 million. 8. Kamen Rider the Movie W/ Goseiger. 3rd week, pulling in $1.2 million. 9. Bayside Shakedown 3: Set the Guys Loose! 8th week, pulling in $1.1 million. 10. The Sorcerer's Apprentice. 2nd week, pulling in $1 million.
