So, it looks like I missed the English language Ponyo trailer while I was away. Well, no longer! Take a look at the video above, while Apple has it in just about every other resolution.
Watching the trailer, I can't help but be mesmerized by the whole thing. I feel that same sort of glee at knowing that I'm going to be watching a Miyazaki film, but at the same time, I feel like this is something more bizzare than I have ever watched before. Which brings me to Rob Bricken's little Ponyo rant that I think you should read.
While I haven't really been following Ponyo's upcoming release in the U.S. all that closely, I can't help but feel like he's right. Especially with the fact that Disney is doing a DVD release before bringing the movie out to theatres -- ensuring that only arthouse people and diehard Miyazaki fans will be buying tickets.
Well, anyways, enjoy the trailer. I'm going to go be saddened by this news over in the corner for a bit.
I didn't know the DVD was going to be released BEFORE hitting theaters....So it's coming out July 18 on DVD.
Yeah, I don't see theater sales doing well considering most people will just rent or buy it. It'd be cool to see it on a bigger screen w/ better quality & sound, but I don't think most people want to spend the money to watch it in better quality once. I'm still looking forward to seeing this movie. Thankfully, my Celebration Cinema is going to show it.
umm... the la times just posted this piece, indicating they really want to promote the heck out of this, and have hired people to make this a more crossover hit.

@njudah Well, I'm glad to see they're opening in more screens, but I still can't understand releasing the DVD almost a month in advance. That's just going to hurt sales, unless they're banking on word of mouth or such.

Damn you, Disney. I hate you even more.
