This is very strange.
It's a video of the rock group X-Japan playing a balls-out version of the "Mikuru Beam!" song from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. The strange thing is that X-Japan just reunited earlier this month after breaking up ten years ago. Wherever this clip came from, it moved pretty fast. (I'm guessing it's from a TV special. Please enlighten me.)
Chronological confusion aside, it's a blistering version of my favorite Haruhi song, and therefore I must share it with you all.
What could possibly top the most popular Japanese metal band ever doing a cover version of an anime song that's supposed to be the OP to a crappy sci-fi show made within said anime show? Click the jump and find out!

UPDATE: I should mention that several commentators have pointed out that the "X-Japan" aspect of both of these songs is very likely false. The entire project is probably the work of a fan or fans. Who they are is anybody's guess at this point. Rest assured that should they reviel themselves, the internet will es'plode with love. #13root, perhaps?
And here we have X-Japan doing a cover of "Okkusenman," that song about Ultraman that always seems to have Mega-Man rocking out to it. (You know, like in my previous post.) Well, now X-Japan is doing all the rocking. The video itself is just a fan creation, but regardless of its origin, it's the ultimate version of one of the best fan-made songs of all time. Enjoy!

Wow who ever made this did a great job, you almost cant tell they're fakes. The footage (to me) looks like its from the final live act with Hide-sama (he will be missed ;_;) Anyways Great job whoever made these, i enjoyed them ^_^

Thanks to Type-R and Chibiyuri for pointing out the fakery. I knew SOMETHING was up, but was sure what. I'm not well versed enough in X-Japan (yet) to know the real from the un-real. Nevertheless, they are awesome versions of the songs. Anyone want to claim ownership?
Just a cool side note for those that don't know. The guy playing drums and piano is Yoshiki, and he wears the neck brace because he actually broke his own neck drumming. Now that's hardcore.
Well then where did the audio come from? It's a great rendition of the song. Makes me wonder why the real people who made the song just made a video of themselves performing so they can get credit, publicity and even get signed up (if theyre not signed) considering how popular youtube is in Japan.
Wow that totally fooled me, the thought that this vid was fake didnt even cross my mind until after I read the comments. Even still, I had a huge grin from ear to ear from the beginning till the last Mikuru-run-run. Power Metal is, and always will be, my favorite type of music, and to hear one of my most favorite songs ever played in power metal is, well, orgasmic to say the least. What a fucking AMAZING way to wake up. Unfortunately, now I have to go to work :(

The performance is from somewhere in 1996-97, and no they aren't actually doing Miruku Beam. If it was new and true, most of the world would stop. After all, Hide died almost ten years ago. Funny, but whoever is singing isn't even close to Toshi, maybe closer to Teru. Fun. But I wish people would leave notes when they do this...there's a huge world out there that doesn't know anything about Japanese music.
