The tantalizing power of Death Note can not be overlooked, because once again another person has made an attempt to harness its power. This time it was a Richmond public school student who was suspended for writing the names of fellow students in his own homemade Death Note. However, the child’s plans were thwarted due to an eagle eyed teacher whose detective skills rival that of L.
I think what we learned here is to either not create a Death Note in the first place, or use it blatantly in front of others. What did Light teach you? Did he ever pull out the Death Note in school and show his friends a thing or two? Never!
Well the story might end there, but I do not think its over yet. Where is this Death Note now? Can anyone truly possess it with succumbing to its sweet killing power? I don’t believe so; because humans are truly interesting creatures.

What I fidn more interesting is that the news reel seems to indicate that they don't realize that that 'Death Note' notebook is actually based off the anime. Do they EVEN know that it's an anime/manga that's now being shown on Adultswim ?
I don't know if you guys at Japanator will read this, but, these dudes have to know that this whole thing may have been a complete and utter misunderstanding, or else people wil get a VERY bad perception of Death Note.
Though, then again, Hollywood mayw ell pick up the story thansk to this publicity.
Yeah, I mean, I just explained the premise to my mom, and she got all wide eyed and stuff. It's actually a great series, if you haven't seen it, but I can see some crazy kids getting a hand on it, and the next thing you know, somebody's shooting up a school. I did give my sane little brother (he's 14) a DeathNote, and he's managed not to be stupid with it. I did think it was odd that they didn't mention the anime or the manga.

The best part is how the newscast describes it. "The book is about a high school student who rids the world of evil..." Dear God, they didn't even bother reading all of the summary on the back of the books. The whole point of the series is that Light believes his goal is righteous when in fact he's just like the cold-blooded killers he wants to destroy- HE'S NOT THE GOOD GUY.
Leave it to American television to butcher a perfectly good story and make all of the parents that much more paranoid...

The news report is confusing in that it states that the book is about a highschool student who rids the world of evil, and only mention ONE BOOK in the entire report, the one made by the student which makes it sound like the kid wrote Death Note. Don't you remember the days when news reports where put together coherently? When they did research thuroughly before going on the air? When they focused more on the story, than on the stir it would cause when people heard it? Oh right, that stopped with the 4chan thing. I never did get the deal with the van, what was up with that?
ROFLMAO! If you didn't know that it was an Anime/Manga then of course you would think that he just named a notebook for a hit list! ROFL, so stupid. Someone should get a stick and put it on their pencil that says "DEATH PENCIL" and see what happens XD
The book is known as the Death Note, I believe whatever human came in contact with the book would eventually be driven to kill more. It didn't happen to the Shigiami or however you spell it because the book had a big part of the life from the beginning of their lives. While for human it just came into their hands and with such power to control who lives and who dies then they are bound to get blood thirsty... but you may be right that the apperance of L did speed the purpose.
As for his purpose, he had two. One that was unselfish and the other selfish
The selfless one was to create a safer world for all. And the selfish one was to become a god.
