Remember how John got all excited at ADV for streaming Gurren Lagann online for free, on an ad-supported streaming site? Well, ADV has taken a massive dump in his Christmas present, because they're only streaming the first three episodes. It kills the whole point of doing speed subs of a show if you're only going to give us a preview of the series.
ADV says that they will show the entirety of some shows on The Anime Network's website, but just not Gurren Lagann.
Not all programs would be broadcast in their entirety in subtitled form. For example, at this time only three episodes of Gurren Lagann are scheduled for subtitled broadcast. Other series in the pipeline will receive longer runs, and even full series broadcast, through First Look. ADV regrets the misunderstanding.
Their "misunderstanding" is a pretty grevious one, if you ask me. Not only is the show only getting a limited showing that isn't giving the anime community what it needs, but they're also restricting the show to 18+ only. I understand that Gurren Lagann is a show that's more violent, and will probably have a 16+ rating on the DVD, but most people using the service are going to be under 18. So, either they lie to watch your show (and technically break the law), or they illegally download it in order to watch it. Rock and a hard place, eh? I'm sure it'll be in an issue of Newtype USA, though.
