Adding fuel to the "OH NOES ADV IS DOOMED!!!1 :( :( :(" conspiracy fire, ADV films's UK division has announced it has put sales and distribution of several of their newer UK DVD releases on hiatus while they transition "UK operations from a US-run office outsourcing to retail partners, to a partnership with a yet-to-be-named local home entertainment group possessing both the track record and the forward planning to handle such a valuable library of international licenses". I assume this means that ADV is going to stop operating their own UK distribution (and possibly end management of the ADV UK label itself?) and transfer it over to a more established DVD production/distribution house in the region. Considering that the UK DVD market for anime is considerably smaller than that of the US (and we all know what's going on in the US anime DVD market, right?), this might not be a bad idea. Funimation's taken a similar route for the UK, and it seems to be working out pretty well for them, so it only makes sense that ADV would follow suit.
A bunch of releases have been put on hold in the meantime - a full list can be found here at Anime UK News - but to offset that, there are also some super-cheap clearance sales going down on some very good series. UK fans would be advised to take advantage of these fire sales while stock is still plentiful, but it also appears that many of the sale pages on ADV UK's site give an error message... hmmm.
