Alright, let's run through the latest Tokyopop news, since the company can't seem to leave my RSS reader for five minutes.

First up, Lianne Sentar gives word that several of her projects haven't been cancelled. She's a freelance editor for Tokyopop, and the titles she talks about specifically are Fruits Basket, Saiyuki, Tactics, and Rave Master.

Next, Scott highlights the history of Tokyopop and how the once-mighty company fell. One of the big blows for them was losing Kodansha titles to Del Rey manga back when the company formed in 2004. The current problems the company is facing, though, seems to be from their heavy bet on OEL. Not just because of hiring so many artists, but as Scott mentions, they made huge bets on distrobution methods that never seemed to pan out. On a side JP Meyer 

There are some followups to Scott's post, too. JP Meyer talks a bit about Futari Ecchi, one of Tokyopop's more risque titles. Over at Omonomono, they put up a rather interesting bit about OEL and why Megatokyo has been successful where other OEL has failed. I've heard too much drama surrounding Megatokyo, personally, to want to get involved with reading it.

Following that, Tokyopop UK is cutting its monthly output by 20%, from 25 titles per month down to 20. According to the article, UK manga sales have gone up 40%, but Tokyopop's sales have gone down 4%. Highlighting Tokyopop's fall, ANN mentions that Tokyopop used to hold 80-90% of the UK market for manga, which is now down to a 50% share.

Well, that's it for now -- at least until someone farts in the Tokyopop offices. I kid. I just find this glut of Tokyopop information and the ensuing discussion a little difficult to keep up with. What about for all of you?
