This is a great day. Not only is it Father’s day, but we finally get to witness the first video of the Gurren Lagann Music Clip Project, one out of a family of eight. This one is named Rap is a Man's Soul! and uses the "Dai-Gurren-Dan theme" as its song. The Music Clip Project is a series of music videos that Gainax is pumping out using music from Gurren Lagann with new animation and new stories we can sink our ravenous drills into. This first one transports the characters from the show into a fantasy-like story with capes and swords and all that fun stuff; basically a Gurren Lagann RPG.
Seeing all these characters again really makes me smile. A green-laden Kamina really made me scratch my head before, but now I think it works out pleasantly; not to mention him beating the hell out of that hoe Yoko is always entertaining in my book. If youtube is not your thing, then my spiral brother Ultamashot sent me a nice rapid share of this video if you want a better quality version of this fanboy’s dream. As a bonus, after the jump, I present to you the official trailer of the project.
Yeah uh Kageryu, this isn't slow at all. It just came out less than 6 hours ago on Winny. This is relatively fast.
In any case, I don't know how this whole project makes me feel...sure it's nice to see all the characters again in another show/thing but at the same time, if they're totally rewriting the plot like this I can't tell if it's just making a mockery of the original or what. It's not bad, but because of the fact the show was so amazing to begin with, it leaves very little room for improvement, and I can't tell if doing this sort of thing would be good or not for it.
It basically makes me think of a production studio deciding to animate someone's doujinshi of their show, but hopefully it won't wear it out.
(As of right now, I have nothing against it and I think it's kinda cool, but I'm just saying I HOPE it doesn't go bad.)
@Len & Heero - I happened to see it a few hours earlier on /a/, that's all, but my futile attempts at witty sarcasm that just ends up coming across as smug aside, I stand by what I said.
ok, so let me try and understand this... this wasn't an episode or anything, it was just a music video of an episode that doesn't exist? I mean, there isn't some episode floating around with dialogue or something?
Basically it's when you take characters from anime and put them into funny situations that aren't really related to the show. Something similar to 4-koma comics that are based on anime. It's just fun-fun-silly-willy.
@darkcyder: I know that, all I'm saying is since you're taking the same characters of an already proven epic show and tossing them into a new spinoff thing that it might make the original seem less unique or get tired out. Sorta like taking super sweet sugar and deluding it by putting it in the same container as less sweet sugar.
hmm, I suppose, I mean if you really look between the lines this is kinda just playing off the show's immense popularity. As long as we just get cool aside stories like this I think it should be fine though.
