Here's a nice piece of news, before Anime Expo swings into full gear: FUNimation has signed an exclusive agreement with Geneon to "manufacture, market, and sell" some of Geneon's more established series, including Hellsing Ultimate, Ergo Proxy, and Black Lagoon, along with others.
I was surprised to see some people think that FUNimation was not doing well -- if anyone was to pick up Geneon titles (and I'm surprised this hadn't happened sooner), I would have expected it to be FUNimation. Viz seems to focus mostly on its manga-related series, while ADV is not in any shape to pick up anything, I would figure. And Bandai Entertainment? I feel like that would be out of the blue for the company.
FUNi is in a good state right now -- I believe they're the most successful portion of the Navarre Corporation this past quarter -- and so they're picking up the cream of the crop from Geneon. Can't think of a better move for them at this point.
I'm sure more details are to follow at their panel at Anime Expo, but we'll just have to hear about that from Dale, now won't we?
I'm just going to say that it's not going to be a surprise if any of the big three (FUNi, VIZ, or Bandai) take a sudden ADV nosedive soon.
