RUMOR Time: Full Metal Alchemist and Darker than Black to get a sequel photo



Canned Dogs has somehow came upon a list of animators that will appear in new studio Bones anime; listed in these projects are a sequel to Full Metal Alchemist and Darker than Black. This list revealed that Ire Yashuhiro will be the director of this new FMA anime. He directed the original anime along with Alien Nine and Kurau: Phantom Memory.

Now I might be a super slow poke here but I actually never finished both anime, and I know from others that Full Metal Alchemist didn’t stop at a place for a natural sequel, so where and when will this anime take place? Are they going to say “screw it!” and start all over from scratch and follow the manga like the Hellsing OVA, or enter filler country? Who knows, but I know a lot of you will be very happy if this pans out.

Really? Even though the movie was lackluster, it seemed to set up just fine for a sequal hunting for the Atomic Bomb

I don't doubt them continuing off of the anime&movie continuity. I just wonder if it'll be another 51 episodes or if they'll go for a shorter one this time.

My bet is they'll jump back a few episodes and go in the direction of the manga. The manga at the time when the anime was still being made wasn't anywhere near as far and developed as it is now, so it'd make more sense if they took it and went with it.

Yeah, ever since the ending of the Fullmetal Alchemist movie I go looking for news like this from time to time. It just makes my day to even hear a rumor like this.

You know, I never really thought of the FMA anime as filler since both the anime and the manga were developed so well as they grew apart. I wouldn't have a problem whichever way they do it now.

I never finished watching FMA, got pretty fan into the series. About 30 Episodes deep.

It's a 51 Episode series to my memory.

But still a squeal would be great for fans of the insanely popular anime.

If this "new" FMA series will start over from the beginning and follow the manga I think I'll bust a nut. O_O!!!

I somehow doubt they'd do an about-face, head back to about episode 25, and follow the manga from there. Yet it still makes more sense than trying to do a sequel to the movie, which was a fairly definitive ending.

Yes i definitely want more darker than black, FMA would be nice also but if i could only have one it would have to be darker than black.

Lets be honest - almost all Series that get a movie have a movie that you could have done without. Remember Escaflowne?! REMEMBER?!?!! -.-;

I'm all for more possessed metal suits ... can't get enough of that fix.

Definately on the FMA boat. Personally, i'd have no problem with them going back to the exact spot that the manga diverged from the anime and just pick up from there. No need to rehash the beginning that we already know. Atsa wasted episode time. Just tell people that need backstory to watch the first 24 or so eps of the first series.

I usually don't like to bitch, but for a supposed "reputable" news source this article is awful.

First off, it's Yasuhiro Irie who's directing it.

He didn't direct the original FMA, he directed the first opening sequence.

Second off, he didn't direct Alien 9 either, he had direction parts in 3 episodes yes, but not even close to a full series.

As for Phantom Memory? Yeah, he did that. Worked on the storyboard and did a lot of the key aspects of that series.

A tleast there is one thing (semi)correct in the article!

Even ANN has the correct information (It says under his name for Full Metal Alchemist "OP1 Director", meaning he just directed the first opening. As well as all other information I presented.

Either way, this is pointless since the rumor has been disproven. Sadly... I want to see Darker Than Black continued. So many plot points left open. FMA was left a little more closed, so I could live without a bastardization of it.
